To seal or not to seal... the windshield

Was told by my mechanic the windshield is loose? but to reseal it may crack the windshield ouch... anyone have any other ideas on sealing it without removing it? Not sure how much a windshield for a testarossa is but I am sure it isn't cheap.
sniff sniff.

Check into price and availability of the rubber gasket that the windshield "rides in", the leak is from the rubber gasket failing...( your machanic said the winshield is loose, the gasket has dried out and most likely has cracks... there are actually "two" areas that are being sealed, one is between the gasket and metal windshield frame and the other is between the glass and the gasket. Getting sealant between the glass and gasket is fairly easy, but near impossible to get sealant between the frame and gasket. In the long run replace the rubber gasket and be done with it for another 20 years. ( the rubber extrusion could have a reasonably common profile and may be available from a specialist who can make one for you )

Loose may be a different scenario but I had a slight repair that the 3M windshield sealer (black) did the trick. The nozzle was big which required some delecate work with painters tape but all is good. Another idea might be to contact your insurance company for glass coverage. Have them remove and reseal - they take the risk, not your mechanic - I wouldn't think that would be much $ having a good windshield.

He was looking for a replacement before trying his glass guy said it was a 50/50 chance of cracking the windshield... not happy with those odds. iI am going to look closely at where they claim its loose, thanks for the info.

Agree with the others, if it is just a leak then some sealant will be ok and done. If it is actually loose then you have to replace the gasket holding it in. Go to a company that specializes in auto glass for a look over. They can get the window out without breaking it.

good result...typically it is not a problem... the procedure is to cut the rubber seal entirely...the better way is to use a wire saw to cut around the windshield ( thread wire to inside of windshield, have 2nd person help saw from inside ), at which point the loose windshield should "fall" out...

Looks better than before there was a white strip on the side of the windshield that was replaced with a black metal seal on the outside looks awesome...
