Chris Harris On Cars: F40 v F50

Chris Harris On Cars - Ferrari F40 v Ferrari F50. Like You've Never Seen Them Before

"Here goes. Two of the greatest Ferraris thrashed as intended. This was one of the best days of my life."

Video of two of Maranello's greatest dancing around the track followed by an interview with Mark Hales, one of the original reviewers of the F40 during the late 80's. A highly enjoyable 22 minutes.

Absolute filth.

Those easily offended by 100% porn, please look away,

Nice recap at end of video unlike most videos, however both cars were worthy of discussing in depth though. Great all the same.

Great video! I'd still take an F50 given the choice. That sound!

This article from Car and Driver makes interesting reading and seems to confirm that in a straight line the F40 is quicker (for what that is worth).

I've met him a couple of times and he is just an enthusiastic and pleasant in person.

Interesting that in his video he preferred the F40 the F50 but in the recent EVO test the result was clearly in the other direction. Was the F40 Chris drove standard, or had it been fettled (better brakes, revised suspension, etc)? I presume someone on here knows who the owner of the two cars is...

From own experience, I would also say that straight forward acceleration, the F40 is somewhat faster (lighter), however overall, including curves and straights, the F50's suspension and constructional stiffness makes it faster (and more secure) than the F40. At the time in '95, Ferrari said that lap time difference in Fiorano is 4 seconds in favor of the F50 (if they did not cheat to advertise the "new" product).
Anyway, both are far behind todays F12's, 599GTO's and 458 speciales ! Innovation keeps going.....

F50 all the way. Let me see, normally aspirated, 8500 rpm V12 or turbo V8? Easy choice for the V12.

Since brakes seem to be the first thing upgraded on F40s, I would bet the one Chris tested had better brakes than it did in 87-92.

One good thing for us in the States, two year's production of F40s can now be brought here with no EPA/DOT requirements.

I am also for the NA V12, but I guess he preffered the F40 because of its behavior on the track - no understeer at all, super-responsive controls and most of all - the car's lower weight, which makes it more fun to drive on a circuit.

F50 also but the F40 is a keeper! I love them both but have to agree that the F50 is something very special! Now , the Enzo and the F50!!!!!! There i do not know how to pick! Very difficult it would be!
