F50 Blast

After coming back from a Long jog (hello Barry) it was time to use a short timed weather opportunity and start the f50's engine. 5 minutes at idle, my oldest daughter next to me and Off we went.... Slow and tame until water and oil showed the necessary 3 illuminated bars and then.......wooooooaaaaahhhhhh:crowngrin :.

Keeping the engine all the time between 4' and 8'000 rpm's to tell it clearly: hey Spring has arrived after a 5 months sleep. The f50 wakes up all senses within me in seconds. Kind like you meet that old gorgeous love again from 30 years ago except "F" feels, smells and rumbles LIKE the other 30years ago.

Back in garage, quick clean off of the little dead (Sorry) bodies ...a last look to that gorgeous F's back.......the door's closing. Always a special experience.

"F" has now 9'500 km's on the odometer. A couple of weeks ago, the 10'000km service was done (19 years after production). No issues, all fluids changed an everything checked according to the plan. Took it out yesterday for a short 25km stint and opened all senses again. Totally different sensualities felt while driving compared to Scud or earlier F40. Nice, slow warm up and then some singing (screaming) shots up to about 7' rpm's, to keep it well controlled on the still quite cold tarmac. In to the Garage and cool down. The crisp, clicking noise from the cooling down engine (while the hood is open) is another part of the Ssnsation, not to talk about the smell of the engine and warm oil when checking levels right after turning the engine off. Welcome new season 2014 ! ;-)

Spring is here and young men are out and about in their magnificent driving machines!

Each of your wonderful reports on your wonderous F50 reminds of the glorious drive I enjoyed in yours, 212Export. I can still hear the scream and we shot along under the Swiss sun. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you my 2 friends, after the short "F" stint work had to be done: Reconstruct "F" from Hardtop to "Barchetta-Version" again for warm weather conditions. And believe me, the word "reconstruction" is not wrong.....sometimes I'm a Little jealous at those Ferrari California type of Drivers who do that Job with a push by their finger.......

Pictures before replacing Barchetta part from the already taken off Hardtop part...

Ah, wonderful. Very brave taking the roof on and off yourself. Mine still has never left the safety of its box.

Looking forward to doing the same when it gets back from the annual service in a week or two.

How much do those CF pieces weigh? All the 60s Corvettes I owned had removable hard tops (and soft tops) and that was definitely a two man job to R&R. Some owners had slings and pulleys on the ceiling to lift and store the tops.

Terry, i would guess: Hardtop with real mineralic Glass at the back side about 7-8 Kilos (20 us pounds);barchetta part is very light and thin, about 1-2 Kilos max ( 2-4 us pounds)

212,

"F" sounds like great, and the odometer is low ...
As i told you two days ago, i think it is one of greats car of every time ....
In my dream garage, "F" would be exceeded only by F 641/2 .... Mansell & Prost, fabulous 1990 F1 season ...you remeber .....
Also my 575 in the Garage during the cool down after drived, the clicking noise from the cooling down engine is another part of the sensations, not to talk about the smell of the engine oil, race smells .....
Also when after starting engine during warm phase, I walk around of car for open the mirrors, the smell of the engine oil, race smells .....
A great spring is coming, or summer .... because today in the Milano Marittima beach lot of people was in bathing suits uder sun !!!!

212- Very lightweight parts. The Corvette hardtops would give two guys a hernia.

We had rain all weekend, and even snow yesterday afternoon!

Of all the narcissists I know, I love me the most.
