LaFerrari at the Geneva Motor show

Dear friends

Just came back from a short visit to the Geneva Automobile show to have a glance at 2 cars mainly: Firstly, the LaFerrari and secondly (thanks to a very generous VIP invitation Package from Boxer) the Mc Laren P1.

As commented before, my first impressions from the Web based introduction of the La Ferrari was rather tame, as my impression was that the car (except for the top front and top rear part) contains to much elements from the 458. After seeing the car "in flesh" I have the same impression. It does not starts to let me dream.....! Unfortunately the doors were closed, so no inside photographs from LaFerrari. I was told that only future owners were introduced to the inside cabin days ago. As a normal mortal that was not me.

Anyway below the pictures of LaFerrari. Please excuse the rather low phot quality...Iphone at its worst.

To me the real eye opener was the Mc Laren P1. First, my daughter and myself where the only one within the Mc Laren stand right after the opening at 9am. Secondly we spend a full our on it, with very competent introduction to all technical details and thirdly almost half of the time was spend inside the cabin enjoying the view and analysis of a 1st rate quality building of a fantastic car. You guys know how much I'm the Ferrari guy but I must and want honour that absolutely fantastic creation of McLaren. I was even more impressed by the exactness of every carbon layer than from the visit of the Pagani Zonda factory some month ago. Regarding the huge bunch of direct (not only marketing wise) F1 component use on the P1 model, I hardly imagine to get it better somewhere. Impressiv, impressiv.

I respect this to be a Ferrari Forum but as we are all open minded and like to exchange personal impressions and knowledge I care to also post some McLaren P1 pictures.

The "shiny" brake discs on the Mc Laren are no marketing effect. I was introduced to the fact that they put a silizium surface on the carbon-ceramic brake disk in a kind of a sandwich system which enhances braking quality (200 degrees celcius higher disk temperature accepted on track with it) and longlive of them.

The P1 is able to be lifted by 5 centimeters suspension wise. The photos were taken with suspension in minimum low racing setup. Blue and red knobs in the steering wheel are aktivation/deactivation of Kers (if I remember correctly). The seating position in the Mc Laren was outstanding and perfect, totally "nestled" in, feeling wise perfectly adapted within seconds.

Unfortunately could not compare LaFerrari regarding seating position, interior layout and haptic adaptation.

This year was the first year McLaren had a stand at the Geneva show. Obviously they have been very servful......Ferrari could learn from them again imo as of todays experience.

Great post and write up. Glad you enjoyed the McLaren stand.

I was also a bit unpleasantly surprised that they would not let us look at the LaFa's interior.

Also not a fan of the LaFa's whale mouth.
