F50 service.....unknown problems

Dear friends

You know how enthusiastic I am about the F50, so i thougt I will bring it to a little service before the winter after driving about 3'000km's since getting it. To be a honest person means also to report potential downsides of owning such a car. Well the F50 went to the dealer and they checked everything from front to back, took down the carbon floor, changed water, changed "cheap fixation" of the water kautschuk tubes, realigned the exhaust system as one of the exhaust parts pushed down to the catalysator electric cables which broke half way by being pressed to the carbon ground, but exactly at a point where the carbon ground has its alloy heat foil protection applied, so that the electricity runned probably "to the earth" at that alloy foil point. Anyway the 2 slowing sensors have been found to be a) full of moisture and the other one b) corrosed. Both of those parts have been changed now.
Else all fluids checked, brakes fluids changed, all kinds of tensioners checked, all well with almost no oil lost after driving it well for the first time since about 10 years. Finally the angle degree of the intake ports (?) have been realigned with a measurment cylinder which is used on each cylinder individually (do not get the correct words here in english) and the engine runned much, much smoother afterwards according to the chief mechanic. Then finally the car runned for 90 minutes on idle to let it run thru all electronic programs to check if all electronic components work well and aligned and.....after that the car stop to work on a bench of cylinders. They called me that they need to try and find the not working component and I would be able to pick up the car 4 hours later....later they called me that they have not yet sourced the error...and they have to search further......!!??

Well I know the car is in good hands....but I'm a little worried what happened. I'm not knowledgable but normally would expect that a electronic examination/tester would quickly fast "spit" out the source of any error component......obviously not.

Any thoughts by you ?

It seems my weekend is ruined by worrying.

212- The diagnostics for cars from 1995 or so, many pre-OBDII, are not as advanced as those introduced with the later Motronic systems using the SD2/3 attached to an OBDII port, so a lot of old fashioned analysis needs to be done. Like most Ferraris, the F50 is set up to run as separate 6 cylinder engines on the same crank, with separate ignition and fuel injsction components for each bank. Will just take a while to sort it out.

Sounds like it might be a fueling or ignition problem. When were the spark plugs last changed?

"F" is back home from its service. It runs wonderfully smoooooooth, hangs crisp on the accelerator pedal......just wonderful to drive it home again.
It was very worthwhile to have it sorthly serviced as since my driving started (respecting the this car has been driven rarely before) many screws had to be fix-turned again, little things aligned but most of all the alignement of the airintake with the quicksilver station (testing the alignement of each cylinders air soaking level --sorry for my bad english). This alignement had the effect that the car hangs stronger on the pedal. Besides many little electrical components changed because of moisture, corrosion or just to make sure it will not be a cause for a future failure.

This afternoons sunlight (clearly fall is starting) inspired me to send you this photographs. (Sorry, Iphone quality)

212- Beautuful. I just acquired the closest I will get to my own F50, a Tamiya 1/12 model that looks just like yours, only smaller. Does not make pretty noises, either.

212, one hardly knows all of the variables that may be encountered when gettign involved in a servic that extensive. Especially once deterioration on multiple components is found. This is neither the first nor the last time something in a Ferrari started as "routine" and evolved into "unknown".

Very glad to hear that it was a minor glitch and in the end the car runs better than ever. Congrats. It photographs very well also, thanks for sharing the pictures with us.
