Starting next year! Just purchased the 328 engine. Sound off if you have any words of wisdom or warnings.

Other than the ignition system that you'll need, it's pretty much plug and play ...

David,

We plan on using the 308's existing Electromotive ignition system and put dummy distributor caps on the 328. Hope it all works together!

I'm missing the 328 manis for Euro 328. Quoted $2,800 for new. Can I use used? I saw a few for under $600 each (non fire damage).

Yes. It will work, but you're taking a huge step backwards.... Other than replacing the expensive cap, rotor and wires, the Electromotive system offers no significant performance advantages. It is a crude system with just a couple of ignition ramps possible. The 328 Microplex system has multiple curves, with multiple rpm-based steps....and takes into consideration engine vacuum. If you were coming from a points-based system, sure...I see the advantage of the Electromotive system. But, the 1950's have passed....

I'll leave it to you veteran mechanics to introduce the best solution. I'll look into the 328 Microplex system as a replacement to the Electromotive system.

I did this back maybe 10 yrs ago and had a few issues
lining up the accessory belts requires trying several crank pulleys and some minor lathe trimming
there is a large banjo fitting needed on the block for the oil output--sourced at Pegasus in England (28mm maybe?)

If you use the 308 4v or 2v trans it works fine but your gears will be really short with all the extra power

Atlantaman,

Great info! If I remember correctly, the 328 engine was previously installed in a 308 as well and ran perfectly. I'm using the same mechanic and hope he understands all the requirements by now.

I am in the midst of reinstalling my motor now if you want to see any pics of anything.
I have run a 328 in my 308 for about 8 yrs now--no problems except the added power makes me want longer gears.....
Where are you located?

QV and 2V have different flanges at the heads. I have a set of nice ceramic euro style 328/QV Tubis that I would like to sell.

I've got carbs and 3.2/QV manifolds too if you really want to do something different.

Well, it's finally in the shop in Raleigh and still needs headers. Looking at stainless but open to used 328 QV (Euro) manis. Not sure if we can pipe into existing 308 muffler.

Rust on the left fuel tank- leaked 5 gallons on the shop floor. Mech said best to just repair, and take care of other bad rust spots around it.
