Ferrari P4/5 Competizione version in the works...

Remember Jim Glickenhaus' Ferrari P4/5? Unveiled at Pebble Beach back in 2006, the re-bodied Enzo was designed by Pininfarina to mimic the classic lines of the legendary 1967 Ferrari P4 racecar. With just a single example built, the P4/5 is truly a one-off design. Or so we thought. According to Glickenhaus' statements on the FerrariChat.com forum, he is undergoing preparations to construct a race version that would make its competition debut at the 2010 Nürburgring 24 hour race from May 13-16. Currently the plan is merely just that - a plan - and Glickenhaus admits that much has to be done before his vision becomes a reality. "There are a LOT of stars that would have to align for this to happen but it's not impossible," he stated.

The P4/5 Competizione, as it is being called, would be based on an entirely new car and would not be a conversion of the P4/5 road car. Glickenhaus hasn't given specifics about exactly which car would be used as the platform, but he did hint that it will "have a Ferrari chassis/vin#/engine and gearbox." The renderings you see here are merely Photoshopped versions of the road car, but an updated sketch and additional specifications should be coming in the next few weeks.

According to Glickenhaus, the leading factor preventing the proposal from coming to fruition is finding a major sponsor. Our guess is that time might become an issue as well, as eight months is a relatively short time to develop, build, and test a competitive racecar. Still, we wish Glickenhaus the best of luck, and hope to see another one of his dream cars on track in the near future.

The renderings are done by Michiel van den Brink as an exercise and are not necessarily how the car will look. It will not run under the N.A.R.T. banner, Jim has confirmed.

Read the thread on FerrariChat, it is fascinating reading.

Given that the rules forbid using carbonfiber tube, other than looks, not sure if it will have anything in common with the Enzo based P4/5.

I like Michiel's work a lot: would like to finally see that 599 in the flesh...AND
would like to truly see him rebody the CA...it needs some 'fixin' there.

Yup, thinking it will have to be one of the newer models, rebodied IF it happens.

Now that the P4/5 competizione has completed the race at the N'ring, any idea what the future plans are for it now?

Jim G posts on fb - really interesting to see his projects unfold.

I gathered he wasn't in love with the hp variables at the ring and probably won't go back unless some changes are made

Maybe Jim will start posting here and tell us himself

I posted a bit about what I know in the other thread, but to my knowledge P4/5C is looking for some other racing opportunities. Once those are exhausted the car will be returned to road configuration and driven regularly just as the other cars in his amazing stable.

oh: Man I am in the biz too...what a dunce.

I have tons of family and friends on FB. I had to delete my account as I don't get it and tired of everyone's small farm and relentless postings of dribble....

How do we get Jim G. over here to post?
Please don't make me go to that other site!
I like what he does with his time and money

Agree of FB, especially since I have no friends.
Takes the fun out being able to un-friend someone.

He does have an account here (username: Napolis) but does not visit too often. Suggest you send him a PM and invite him to join the on-going discussions on the P4/5 etc.

Hey

We are making an EVO version of P 4/5 Competizione. P 4/5 Competizione M.

We're doing a lot of engine development and re engineering the entire engine using only the block and heads in an attempt to get more HP in the air restricted form we're required to race in.

We're also totally re designing the suspension and re enforcing the chassis as we want to increase TS and keep it together over our next 24.

We're making major aero changes and have fitted a Shark Fin and engine air scoop which is giving us about .2 BAR of ram air.

We'll continue and will next modify the nose a bit and may fit a KERS system for more performance and range.

Best
