Underside of front Bumper?

Hey Guys,

Does anyone know for sure if the underside of 355 bumpers where matte black at the skid pad locations?

In this factory photo they are just the same color as the car.

I want to be sure I restore the bumper 100% OEM when painting.

I don't know if this is OEM or not but Bradan always paints them black. There are several threads with photos showing what they do on another site. The raised portion of the skid pads themselves, the thin raised pieces extending along both sides of the bumper and the center section are all painted black including their edges. The black matches the black in the grill opening. The sheen looks like either a flat or egg shell luster. When I do my bumper, that's what I intend to do.

Hi Jerry,

Yep. main paint shop is planning to do just that. I decided to look for a (factory) photo to see the black outline and then I was surprised that the factory photo had no black at all. I want replicate the factory so I'm checking to see if that what is accurate. Most bumpers have been resprayed so it's going to be hard to get a definite answer. And, the factory may have made a change.

I'd have to guess that the factory left the entire bumper body color. I can't see them making the effort to add another coat of paint just to match the black underbody panels.

I just took a look at my other 2 cars. Black on both, including my Nero car (matte black in pad location)

Tape line in the same location. It suggests factory. I'm assuming they made a change after the press photos.

Mine must have been sparayed incorrectly as it's all one colour under there.

Be good to see a photo of correct paint line for next time i get the bumper painted

Howard, I'm going to proceed as planned and paint matte black on the underside. I'll be posting photos during and completion as I get them from my paint shop.

Not to be argumentative but all the bumpers already had two colors, the body color and then the area behind the grill. Doesn't seem like too much of a stretch for them to have also put the same black on the skid pads.
