Single Stage paint thickness?

Greetings All,

Does anyone know the paint thickness range for single stage paint?

I just purchased a paint meter and want to measure the paint thickness before doing a paint correction on my new 95 B.

I do understand it will vary, just looking for a starting point.

Thanks in advance.

-Dave

I received my paint meter yesterday. PosiTector 6000 FNS1. I played around taking measurements from 4 of my cars and my employee's new WRX.

The WRX was the most consistent and the least amount of paint.

For the 355's, the measurements where all over the place. I'm not suprised as we are talking .001" of an inch here so seeing a variation of .003" over the full car does not alarm me.

Interesting to see that the gas doors on the 2 95's had the least amount of paint compared to the rest of the panels.

This tool has the ability to sore values and output a report. I'll be doing that in the future.

Check the thickness at door/fender edges

Top of door curve. rocker panel would be curious to see who bent over while painting

Cute meter do you get a coupon for an egg mc muffin with it ? LOL

Dave,

What was the average paint thickness?

Interesting observation on the gas door. A user on Fchat has a thread about paint correction on a 95B and he burnt through the paint on the gas door

Are your paint stickers on the 95s the same brand and code as mine?

Hope so. I just looked it up. That's an expensive piece of kit.

Neil, the units are mils which is one thousand of an inch .001"

Yes, expensive unit, just shy of $1100. But, I bought it thru my business as we really should be checking plating thickness and this tool will do that. It has other options that will ne more helpful for those applications.

It has the ability to collect data and output a report to a PC. I will do that on a later date (per panel)

PS, it was Jim, INTMD8 that burnt thru the gas door and that is why I took those measurements. I already emailed him the photos as we are friends.

Silly is right to question the forementioned area, that was one spot I had a problem with when correcting my 97.
