Ferraris have always been quite reliable. Once the Internet came along, all that changed. Go figure! Years back, I drove my 328 from Rochester NY to Key West; over 2500 round trip with no issues. And our 365bb and 550 regularly see 300-500 mile trips. The biggest problem with Ferrari reliability isn't the cars but rather the folks working on them.

The longest I've gone was 4.5 hours one way. My biggest fear, unlike other DD cars, is getting stranded many hours from home, not having the parts or tools with me to fix the issue and needing a flat bed ride home.

But, that does not stop me from driving and enjoying the cars. I'd personally would not likely do a 1000 mile trip. Not that I think the cars can't handle it, I just would be too concerned.

On very long trips, I actually rent cars. This way if something goes wrong I can just walk away into another rental and not worry about anything.

Good call Dave, i was going to say even my new vehicles have left me stranded. I actually feel after owning my car this long i am probably more confident in it then my newer ones.

Also the guys using them. If you leave a 365BB or 512BB in the garage for years, and then drive it without checking your 30 year old fuel lines, it's not the Ferrari's fault when it bursts into flames!

In regular use, all the Ferraris I have experience with (1966 - now) are very, very reliable. But you need to know them well, and be on top of them. I've had quite a few breakdowns in Ferraris, but no car has ever been on a flatbed. I was always on the road again after a couple of hours.

In my 330GTC, the breakdowns I had were all in the first year of ownership, as we were ironing out the kinks. After that, 15,000kms without issue. I've done 1,100kms in a single day in the GTC several times. The only way to get to the Mediterranean!

Incredible! I've never done more that 200kms with the BB. I'm always scared that could break something!

Agree! That's a very good point, Onno. These cars do not "sit" well and the resulting deferred maintenance often has a much higher cost than meets the eye. This fuel line has only been in use for five years,

I drove 200 miles Saturday and another 200 Sunday. The more I drive the better it runs.

Onno,
I started ownership with my GTC with a 5,000 km trip across the US. It was fine until I hit the Rocky Mountains and had numerous vapor locks. I ended up having to drive from midnight to 8AM only. Recently I was told about a "great" temporary solution. - Good old American style white bread. Wrap it around the fuel line. Later we found the mechanism that works the mechanical pump was badly worn, and even a higher capacity electric pump couldn't do the job. A fun car.

I've drove 6500 km in 3 years of ownership, 250 to 500km trip intervals. never had any problems. I don't like the car to sit for more than a week, in worst cases three weeks if I'm away from home for some reason, I try to avoid this. Happy with my 328 !
