Laquer is very old school paint. It was a fast drying, super hard paint that was easy to spray because it dried in the air as it hit the panel. Old laquer paint jobs looked really great as you could pour on many coats then buff until your fingers falled off and get a deep shine. But, because of the hardness, the finish would spider web.

All 355's are urethane. Early were single stage. Later were 2 stage. Single stage means it'a a one shot, the color and shine are in the one stage. 2 stage means the color coat goes down first. It is somewhat matte in sheen. Then, clear (stage 2) clear is applied for the shine.

That is the nickel tour

How are the wheels looking now?

Do you know how the painter removed the old paint?

What colour are you using to paint the wheels?

Were they tested for cracks?

Howard,

Painter has epoxy primed them as soon as they came back from Dow 7 as that is a requirement to get primer on in a short period of time. He has since applied another coat of primer and block sanded that coat. Yesterday he told me he is doing another primer coat.

Yes, I know he removed all paint as we glass bead blasted them before packing and shipping them for Dow 7.

I am painting them the factory OEM color using the proper factory PPG base coat / clear coat (2- stage).

No, they were not tested for cracks as I have no reason to believe they were cracked and did not see it visually (yes, I know it can be hard to tell).

Glass bead blasted is a "soft" way of blasting is it?
I heard soda blasting is preferably for mag wheels
What specifically is the OEM wheel colour?

The glass we use is like flour - extremely fine. We only dusted off the wheels to remove any remaining paint and better the surface.

The OEM wheel paint is PPG 36520 Argento Nurburgring (Old code 101/C)

Grant, the floor is Race Deck. I had originally painted my floor with epoxy but the project went bad (long story). Essentially, I prepared the floor and bought materials then put the coating off a year and the materials went bad. Stupid mistake on my part. I sanded down the epoxy so it's still there as a sealant. But, my concrete is pitched to the door and not totally flat and I had standing puddles of water in winter from snow melting of my DD.

The Race Deck some what solved that problem as the water flows underneath it. I like the product but would much rather have a hard coating instead of the click-clack of the tiles and the dirt / oil getting in between the tile seems.

Mine is a 1995
Glasurit paint...metallic blu swaters...no color shows when rubbed
So i have 2 stage Glasurit
What are these 2 stages?

Metallics since forever are base coat clear coat. My 82 308 was a blue metalic and it was base coat clear coat glasurit.

My yellow 95 in Glasurit is a single stage my Red 98 in PPG is base coat clear coat.

Wiped the rejuvenating oil off with pristine clean from seats today. I'm very pleased with the results. Seats are in near new condition.

Even the seats in a 355 are bloomin' works of art.

What a masterpiece that tipo is.

Been for a great drive today with roof off round mountain roads here.
The car is just a joy
What an engine
What balance
What a sound
So comfortable

It doesn't get any better for road use
