Dash dimmer switch

Just wondering when you other guys dim your dash lights what does it dim. Mine dims the dash gauges, gauges above stereo, and the climate control. It does not dim the switches on doors, switches on center console both click and round, and does not dim the F1 lights. What do yours do. Thanks.

Grant, I believe that's all correct. I can't recall if the HVAC panel dims, I'll check.

Dave if you have a pic of the back of the passenger window switch could you post it. I would appreciate it. Need to see the clip positions. Same with the main vents in the center. I found pics for the left and right side vents. Thanks

Grant, I don't have any photos handy - I think I have the parts here though so let me check and I will shoot them if I've got them.

Davefollowed bobs lead on fchat and it came out easily. There are actually 4 tabs even on the pass side centered on all sides. Exactly like the drivers side

Checked tonight,

Everything dims except all switches around F1 lever including auto and rain snow button plus the recirculation button on HVAC panel.

Ok so your window switches on the doors dim as well. I think the Leds in the gauges then are not using enough power and the other LEDs then dont dim.

So to summarize the dash dims, the drivers side window switch dims, the pass side window switch dims, the door locks, heated mirrors, sport, fog all dims, the push buttons interior light, gas door, daytime running lights push buttons all dim, the gauges above cassette dim and finally the heat er controls dim except the stop and recirc. The f1(R),auto,and low traction do not dim.

Is that correct?

Grant, here is what I know:

Does Dim:

-Main instrument cluster (Speedo, Tach, Water Temp)
-Gauges above radio (Clock, Fuel, Oil Pressure)
-HVAC Panel (less recirculation button)
-Mirror control arrows

Does NOT Dim:

-All switches around shifter
-F1 Reverse button
-F1 Auto button
-HVAC Panel recirculation button

Did Not Check:

-Switches on doors (guessing they do NOT as the other switches do NOT).

Dave,

Are you sure about the HVAC "REC" button not dimming but the "STOP" button does dim? These are both tiny incandescent bulbs up inside the buttons. There are 3 other lights for the rest of the HVAC module that have been replaced with LED's in my car but not the tiny incandescents due to the shape and size. I'm not sure but my recollection of the circuit board is both are on the same circuit. I can't check mine right now because things are currently all apart. My car is 1996 Spider. Perhaps later cars are different but kinda I doubt it. What year car are you describing?

Another light that does not dim is the ash tray light.

Jerry

Jerry, I'd guess the stop light does not dim either but mine was not in stop mode last night so it was not even illuminating.

And, I've never opened my ashtray since I put the interior back together a couple years back.

All of these observations are from my 98 F1 GTS

Thanks Dave. It doesn't get more definitive than that.

Regarding the F1 Gear indicator LED. I don't think it dims but it did seem to get brighter - I thing light from the surrounding gauges is entering the area and just making it seem brighter.

One last thing Dave. I understand that when the STOP and REC buttons are pushed down they light up at a constant level and are now off the dimmer. This leads me to believe in the pushed down position they are independent of the light switch. In other words, they only require the ignition key to be on to light up in the down position. Correct?

Jerry, I did the video with engine off but key in ignition turned to first position, head lights down. Does that answer your question?

....Now, I have a question for myself - not sure if I turned the stalk one click for dash lights to come on. Crap - I need to check that
