308 Euro speedometer

OK,
So here is a interesting question. Does anyone have any knowledge about speedometer conversions on "federalized" graymarket cars?
I have heard about face overlays for mph with kilometer odometer retained etc. The reason I ask is that if my car has this situation then I have a very low milage 308!! (what is the conversion from 27,000 kilometers to miles) When I took possesion of the car I reset the trip meter to 0. I took some of my family members for short rides to show off
my car Cristmas day and racked up 100+ on the odo!! can't be miles.
I'll do a mile marker odo check, or check it against my trip meter in my truck, but any comment or knowledge on US entry conversion etc. would be appreciated.
HAPPY NEW YEAR to all !!!!
Thanx,
Luigi

Suggest you contact the shop that did the Federalization and find out how the speedo conversion was handled.

Unfortunatley the DOT work was done on import in 1987 so that may be a problem.
Thanx for the input. BTY I understand every 512 BB was a Euro import and the speedos all had to be converted or overlayed, is this true? How was yours done?
Lou

P.S.
Wait, silly question, yours is still there. Nevermind.
Anyone else have a clue?

The DOT may still have some records on your call. Can't hurt to give them a quick call.

I've seen quite a few Euro 308s and 328s with the odometer in KM. My early 1986 328 is that way. I think it was up to the importing company which way they wanted to go.

While it may be a little hard to see at 640x480, there is a substantial difference in the facing materials in my speedometer and tachometer. You can definately tell the speedometer has an overlay on top of it and can see some wrinkling around the screws and lower indicator lights. The tachometer has a different texture and looks silkscreened directly onto the metal face. It also reads to 200mph rather than the U.S. spec 180mph. I've seen the same overlay on chassis 59935 as well.
