Bonhams 308

Check this out.

Bonhams : 1984 Ferrari 308 GTSi Quattrovalvole Chassis no. ZFFUA13A8F0053225 Engine no. F105E040 00596

If you are going to tell someone how to remove a bolt you should at least know which way to turn the wrench.

Let's see if it brings the $75K-100K projection.

Very nice car, but I just can't get into transverse motors - it's a huge turn off for me.

It's actually a better orientation because it doesn't place any torque around the longitudinal axis of the car. You would think an engineer would recognize that.

Think motor cycle.

But price, I agree. If that car goes for over $75k I can only wonder what my 85 GTB would bring. Other than color I think it's a better car though a few more miles. One owner, mostly original, and no cheap stereo with tweeters mounted on the wheel wells inside the car.

Prugna is beautiful, but that estimate is nuts.

Is there a bubble emoji somewhere on this forum?

I recognize it, but if it was better, all motors would be transverse - and they are not

But may are, including some that handle very well. All current Lotus cars, including their production race cars, the Alpha 4C, BMW i8, let's not forget the NSX, 308, Mondial, 246, Lamborghini Miura, and many more.

Hard to ague with the handling of the Lotus. The 4C is supposed to handle like a go cart. The NSX was knocked because it was "too easy" to drive fast.... Bottom line is that some of the best cars have it. You have to shed you bias.

If longitudinal was batter all cars would have it, but they don't.

I can only conclude that the price reflects the rarity - it looks like someone has mixed purple paint into a pile of pooh and then covered a nice Ferrari with it, so it is probably one of a kind.

Best wishes, John

If the Bonhams one is overpriced, then this one certainly is as well;

except for one offs, or vary rare, auction prices for more common things are outliers. Sothebys can sell a Miro print I have for 25K. but they will only consign one. guess what? Not mine. I can get maybe 2,500. I put little stock in auction numbers unless most or all of the items are only sold at auction.

How about this listing then:

1984 Ferrari 308 GTSi GTS - La Jolla California area Ferrari dealer near San Diego California – New and Used Ferrari dealership Chula Vista El Cajon Oak Park California

$99,999 for an '84 308. Sure, it's just an asking price, but it's time to acknowledge that the intrinsic value of these cars is starting to be recognized.
