308 wheels

I hear a lot of talk about 308 wheels. As far as I know they are the same exact wheel all around and only the mounting bolts are different. Is this not true. Did it get changed in later years?????????

Yes, it is the same wheel front and back, the bolts are different. I can never remember because I usually take one wheel off at a time and never misplace the bolts, but I think the rear set are shorter, the front bolts are longer.

As far as I know, this continues with 328's...

Thats what I always thought but you hear people always talking about different widths and offsets from front to rear. I got a spare set in my garage and they are all 4 identical in every way.

Peter is correct, The longer bolts are in the front and the shorter ones in the rear. The wheels are the same and can be mounted in any of the 4 wheel locations.

The metric wheels are the same all around and the 14"s, but the QV rims are 7x16 front and 8x16 back.

Okay, Bruno, what are you talking about, the sizes of the bolts or the sizes of the wheels?

Yes, the bolt lengths are different and yes, some models of Ferraris use different offsets, rim widths and wheel diameters. The bolt-circle-diameters have remained the same over the last couple of decades, you can bolt a 360 18" wheel to a 308 with no problems. However, early Mondials are unique, because of Ferrari's use of different king-pins and wheel bearings. When the range was updated with ABS, different calipers and discs were used, but were homogenized amongst the range, so 328's and Mondials recieved the same, convex-shape wheels. The 400/412 range also had its different offset wheels changed and again, due to installation of ABS. Remember, they all kept the same BCD which is 5 X 108mm.

Guys, I think Bruno is refering to his 79 308 GTS like mine that was my assumption here. The older 308 cars.

I know the bolts are different. My question is from the older 308's and up to the last 308. Did the wheels change where they were different from front and rear???

What I now read is the early carbed 308's were identical as I thought. And I have a spare set of that look identical. The 4v cars that used the metric wheels were different from front to rear?

That was what Bret was saying . The change in wheel size came with the Q/V cars.

To try and clarify (we do always post at the same time for some reason, lol), Peter summed up the bolt pattern of all Ferrari wheels (offset may vary, but bolt pattern is the same). To clarify the wheel situation. There were three rims offered over the course of the 308 production, 1. 14", 2. metric rims, 3. 16" rims. Cars equipped with 14" wheels have the same wheels on all four corners, you could say swap a back right for a front left, etc with no problem. The same is true with the metric wheels, all four corners are the same wheel essentially. The difference came as an option on the 4v cars you could get 16" rims with different size front and rear (7" wide front and 8" wide rear, both 16" rims), so essentially you couldn't just swap a right rear for a front left because they are different rim and tire widths. Hope this helps.
