fuel smell

had the 348 out for a long drive today, after running for a few hours i started to smell fuel. , checked for leaks and found none. heard a slight hissing from the gas cap, loosened it and it released what seemed to be a lot of built up pressure. drove a little more and the same thing , smell and built up pressure. has anyone run into this?i'm a mechanic so i can fix it myself , , just wondering what the most likely culprit is.

Vent return lines maybe? I've smelled fuel in mine too... no obvious leaks but you know it's pretty difficult to see a bad fuel line when all the damage is on the inside. I'd change them all.

Current: 85' GTS QV
It's a simple process...... it's just complicated by human beings....

fuel smell

Just read on my348 that after a long drive and after the shock of closing the left door the fuel tank pressure relief valve can get knocked off its seat and cause a hissing sound from the pressure in the fuel tsnk. It just seemed like there was just a little to much pressure in the tank when i loosened the fuel cap. It definately was not a fuel leak anywhere, just a strong fuel smell from the area of the gas cap. My348 says its normal but doesnt seem normal to me

My 348's current and previous (both spiders) have / had the same issue, the smell is worst when tank is less than a quarter of tank and it is hot outside. For me I just fill up when at 1/2 tank and never an issue then. The rush of air is pretty amazing when opening the cap.

always summer here

By the way correct air pressure in tank keeps tank from crushing itself (vacuum in tank). There are threads on purge valve stuck open and tank sucking the walls in.

You just never ever want to open cap and hear air rushing in......nightmare follows.
