Gas Mileage

I just put a deposit in my first Ferrari, a 308 GTS QV. Excited and nervous. Still have to wait a couple weeks before it is delivered like a pizza assuming the inspectors don't give me bad news. I did have a question....as I was looking at the documentation, I was sort of surprised to see the gas mileage of 15 highway and 9 city. Is it really that bad? I could see that with spirited driving... anyways, feedback would be appreciated. As I didn't get Prius, ,clearly gas mileage isn't at the top of my list...but hoping it isn't THAT bad unless I am on it.

Sounds about right. They were not too worried about fuel consumption back then, more about horsepower, and the 308 QV was geared for acceleration and top speed, not economy. Has not improved much. My 575M is rated at 10/17 and the 458 at 12/17.

That's about what I get from the 308 GT4. I think I once pushed it out to 17 mpg but there was a big hill involved and I was going down it.

Jimmy- Affirmative, I crunched the consumption numbers once on the 575M and vowed never to do that again. Scary. One reason why the fuel tanks are so big.

Forgot to mention that one thing I cannot figure out is that my Dino (a V6 !) seems to get same mileage as other twelve horses ? Does not seem to make sense, but that seems to be the fact, at least for me ? I would not bother to give numbers because here it is liter/ km and too much hassle to convert to gal/miles.

How many l/km do you get from your Dino? I'll do my first refill probably tomorrow and will know about my 308 at that time, I'll try to convert it here, although I'm mostly driving in town with many, many traffic lights, so I'm pretty sure my fuel consumption will be terrible. Anyway, I was recently told by a friend that a Group 4 Daytona does 1km/liter (2.35 miles per gallon) when on a track... that's a number I have NEVER heard of before!

Furanku, I believe my Dino averages 5km per liter or so, which was pretty much the case for BB, Daytona, et al.

That would translate into 11.8 miles per gallon. I fear I'm getting much less with my 308 now, given the terrible roads I'm usually on. I'm guessing less than 10, which is close to the documentation figures.

Furanku, you should exceed 20 MPG if you pull away slowly, not exceed 3000 rpm and coasting towards traffic stops etc.

I get on average 17 to 18 Miles per gallon which is fine.

I've done an experiment with my 328 along highway taking it easy and manage to get over 11km/L (26 MPG +)

hope it helps.

There's a dramatic difference in mileage when taking it easy and pressing on.

But why take it easy in cars like these?

We purchased a fellow members 308 QV which he installed EFI, my wife and I drove it a tad over 2500 miles in less than a week and averaged 20+ per gallon. Thats 95% highway miles.

A bunch of stuff.

It's modern cars vs old stuff. Look at the mileage on a 70's corvette compared to today. Today more hp and 50% better mileage. My Hyundai Genesis is 3.8 liters, naturally aspirated 333hp and it gets 30+ on the highway on regular gas.

Gas mileage should really not be a worry for the first time buyer, you might ending up not using your Ferrari as a daily driver like myself, I take the Ferrari out on weekends mostly and once a while on week evenings for fun drives,,,far weekend drives/ trips my favourite. Most SUV's today gives 20MPG if not less.

But that's a well done efi conversion. I think I was getting about 18 highway when my QV was stock and about 17 highway with the supercharger on it.

Ever since I converted to EFI I can only afford $40 of high test stuff a week.

Seems that yellow light is always blinking after a couple of runs.
