F355 Chalenge grille

Hi, wonder if anyone can help. Looking for a rear challenge grille for my 96 F355 spyder.

These seem to be rarer than rocking horse s**t, can anyone point me in the right direction.

Cheap new unit or 2nd hand unit considered.

thanks

Rob, UK

Rob - I don't think they're particularly expensive even if you buy a new one. Have you tried Maranello?

yes I have, just resent paying near on 600 notes for a piece of wire mesh.

You see I'm a poor student and need to find the grille at a lower cost to justify it!

Yeah I know, a student with a 355, long story. . . . .!

You're making me curious :P

It's an instant classic. It's an iron fist in a velvet glove. It's a Ferrari.

Well the short answer is that I need to get to school quicker

The longer and honest answer is something to do with the UK tax man.

Having worked as an IT contractor in banking, I was paid via my own limited companies. Needless to say, one day the nice tax man came a knocking at my door and demanded a shed load of cash from me. Now don't get me wrong, I always paid what my accountant told me to. But, I'm a computer consultant, not an accountant etc.

Anyway, this battle has been going on for some time and it finally got resolved about a month ago. So, I found my self in the fortunate position of not having to pay over quite as much as I first feared. Hence, I thought **** it, I've always wanted a 355 Spyder, and what with the annual Le-Mans trip coming up, it was the order of the day.

However, I'm now back in study (doing Aerospace as computers bore me) and unlike a lot of F car owners, my resources are not inexhaustible. Hence, why I want a cheap-ish rear grille. Besides, the item is effectively wire mesh, stamped out on a press and then painted black. Just because it's made for the prancing pony, does not make it seem good value to me at Ferrari's quoted price.

Interestingly, there seem to be a lot of others who are after these grilles as well, see Ferrari chat and Ferrari Ad web sites. I'm surprised that no one has produced a pattern item as of yet. QV London say they are having some made, but this story has been told to others for a long time and still no supply is evident.

Advice always welcome

Rob

Rob,

In that case just go to a fabricator/welder (maybe Peter can help, he does that everyday) with the specs and have it made to order. Should be real cheap. Then you can paint it yourself. I would suggest being different. After the things I saw in Japan I think a little charge is OK. Paint the grill the same color as the body and it will look very cool. Cost will probably be $100.

Sure am !

I'l be leaving Friday morning from Dover (as I live about hour away) with a group of non F-cars. The bunch don't even know I''ve brought her yet and I'll just turn up and see the looks on their faces!

Be careful, as I've read that this year, the French police are cracking down big time on speeding. have a gander at the AA web site. But basically, they can (and will) take your license from you if you're doing silly speeds. Also, take all documents relating to your car, else, they may lock you up until you can prove it's yours etc.

Apart from that. it'll be a blast!
