Oil Temperature Sender

Before I start, let me remind everyone to re-install your oil temp sender BEFORE adding oil.
Not sure if anyone knew that...

I had 4 quarts in before I realized I'm an idiot...

Grabbed the sender, popped it in, backed it off, caught the groove, screwed it in.
Went in fine for about 75% of the threads.
The last bit is super tough.

Is this normal?
I don't want to strip the threads.

Also--
Is there a washer for the oil temp sender?
I did not have one before.
My parts book/blow out image doesn't show one.
The blown out images online don't show one.

But--
Some images from other installs show a washer (I think...?)
Maybe, only on a 328??

Normal. It's a "pipe" thread....No washer, but a dab of pipe thread sealant is a good idea. Once the fitting becomes snug another quarter turn and you're done. If you look closely, you'll see that the threads are tapered.

I had a Fiat Dino 2400 GT that had a frozen/stripped drain plug for the oil sump. Luckily, the oil temperature sensor was right on the bottom of the sump, so that is how I changed the oil. Too chicken to try and remove the real one 35 years or so ago. So yes, if you leave that sensor out, there is a pretty good hole in the wet sump for Ferrari V6s and early V8s. The oil will come out just about as fast as you can pour it.
