Dear David,

That is a spindle used to attach tie downs when transported. It fits on the hub when the knock off is removed. David Carte made it and it is used because with full belly pans there is no place to attach any securing tie downs under the rear of the car. Up front the lower suspension is visible and reachable so I only need them at the back.

Best regards,

Robert

Cavallino 25

Dear Dinosaur followers,

As most of you already know, the Cavallino 25 tried to have most of the previous 25 years Best of Show winners on display this year. The blue car was invited as it took that trophy in 09. Was another good car show day as my voice was about gone by the end of the day, but it was really windy and quite cold.

On Sunday we took the car to the Classic Sports Sunday at Mar-A-Lago. An amazing collection of all sorts of makes were there. At the gorgeous luncheon buffet they passed out awards. Surprisingly the blue car won not only the Class Excellence Award but it also garnered the Best Competition Car Award. Total surprise as I thought we were there as a previous Best Comp Car winner from 09 as well, but it turns out that all entrants are judged at the CSS. Now I have to find room for two more big trophies.

Totally unrelated to the awards was the fact that all of the Cavallino 25 Staff wore name badges which all contained a shot of the blue car in the background. Spoke to an event organizer and it was randomly chosen from literally dozens of photos. The one in the photo was gifted to me as another memento.

Will post more photos from both events later.

Best regards,

Dear Dinosaur followers,

One of the events during the Cavallino Classic is the Symposium held on Thursday morning. Three cars are selected to have their histories and mechanical details discussed in detail. The first shot below is before the Symposium started, the second is while I am getting into details, and the third is two days later on the show field with more story telling. A good car show day is one where I am hoarse by the end of the day as I enjoy practicing what Peter Mullin referred to as "Educational Outreach" since so many know so little about the early Ferrari four cylinder racing stories.

The last two shots are at Mar-A-Lago with some of my competitors for the Finest Competition Award which the blue car won.

Best regards,

Dear Dinosaur followers,

The blue car has been delivered by Intercity and is now safely ensconced in the secure garage. The new trophies have also found a place in the trophy shelves. Not much room left.

Dear Dinosaur followers,

Last weekend the New Mexico Chapter of the Rocky Mountain Region of the Ferrari Club of America celebrated Enzo's birthday. We started at my garage for refreshments and talks about my car and then moved on to Quail Run for dinner. Best I could tell it was a very successful evening and as usual Bryan and I enjoyed talking history and mechanical details of the 500 Mondial. Photos by Ron Wieneke, Chapter President.

Best regards,

Robert

thank you Dave, and mon Amiral, though I've seen this Petrolicious clip before it is just as exciting and enchanting as ever. May we both enjoy our Ferraris for another decade or two!

Dear Dave and Seth,

Glad you enjoyed the video. I am amazed at the view count.

I did come across another site with some good stills from that day by Jeremy at http://tinyurl.com/hlp5fl5

Dear Seth,

I know that you were at the 1956 Sebring Twelve Hours and I was curious whether you had any photographs from that race. In particular any shots of the dark blue 500 Mondial #33 driven by Jim Pauley and Porfirio Rubirosa.

Best regards,

Robert

Dear Dinosaur followers,

It is a bright spring day in Santa Fe so off to the monthly Cars and Coffee at the Four Seasons Rancho Encantado Resort outside Tesuque. A very recent addition to the Phillips family is the Classic Mini that Bryan just bought. It needs a bunch of work to finish it properly but we had fun with a paste-on number. My car sure does run rich at this altitude but I have not taken on the job of re-jetting the Webers.

Best regards,

Dear Dinosaur followers,

I find it hard to believe but today the Petrolicious video at
passed the 150,000 views milestone! I was not expecting more than a tenth of that number. As a direct result of the video the car has been invited to the 10 September 2016 Golden Gate Ferrari Festival in downtown San Francisco which benefits the Make-A-Wish Foundation. People seem to like the blue car.

Best regards,

Robert

I hadn't seen your video before, Admiral. I very much enjoyed it and I share your hope that "the blue car" will always be driven.

Have you ever brought it over to this side of the Atlantic?

Best wishes, John
