I think that's the day we embalmed the top end of the motor?

Bryan, I think you are right as I do not recall running the motor after that. I used some strange stuff called WRC 40 or 50 which was a lot like WD 40 but with some magical wax content. It must have worked because when we took the motor apart 30 some odd years later the cylinder walls and pistons were not married to each other with rust.

Best regards,

Robert

Admiral- Great period photo and quite a difference in how she looks now. I remember seeing those square rollbars on all sorts of cars where they just looked wrong at SCCA events in the 60s and 70s. Including at the Bottomless Lakes races near Roswell when I attended NMMI in the mid-60s.

Dear Terry,

I was racing in the years when SCCA was trying to get a better handle on safety. In 1959 you could have a roll bar or post as long as it was high enough over the drivers head that a broomstick placed on the bar or post and the hood did not touch the driver's head. After a fatal at Del Mar with a post which simply buried itself in the sand when overturned, the posts were deemed illegal. Then the requirement changed to a roll bar over both seats which is what you see in the third photo. They then changed the requirement to having a rearward support in the upper third of the roll bar which happened about the time I stopped racing the Ferrari.

The first photo is the way it was when I bought the car in 1960. Funny enough I removed that bar by hand, the welds were so bad that it came right off.
The second photo is with the post and cap.

Best regards,

Admiral- Fascinating evolution of the TLBC over the years. She was beautiful in red, too. The blue she is painted now, though, really makes her stand out in a sea of Rosso Corsa.

Reminds me to ask if you, HelenAnn and the lovely blue Mondial shall be at the FCA Ohio Annual Meet? Judith cannot as she is attending her high school class reunion in Prague but spouses are uninvited so I may just go to Columbus with the 575M

Dear Seth,

I have been asked to take the blue Mondial to the 25th Cavallino Classic in January as a previous Best of Show winner in 2009. So HelenAnn and I and the Mondial will be making the trip to Florida. That expense probably will preclude the FCA National.

Judith must have really graduated early!

Enjoy Cavallino, mon Amiral! It invariably abuts the NY State Bar Association Annual Meeting in NYC, required attendance as I'm on the State Bar General Practice Section Exec Comm as a past Chair, and almost always a member of the House of Delegates.

I've been to one Cavallino Classic, wonderful event, great people meeting and for that one the Saratoga Automobile Museum sent down our 1926 Ford truck-based popcorn wagon and a bunch of Board members, incl me, attended.

Yeah, Judith must have been a child-prodigy
Best to you, HelenAnn and Brian for good health and a joyous 2016.

Dear Dinosaur followers,

Just came across some nice shots taken by the Petrolicious contract videographer Jeremy Heslup at:

Thought some of you might enjoy seeing them.

Best regards,

Robert

Dear Dave,

Glad you like those shots. You may also see a bunch of them of the blue car at Laguna Seca where I was having a ball at:
8

By the way 165 years ago my great grandfather was born about 30 miles from you in Alabama, NY.

Best regards,

Robert

Small world. If you ever come this way, be sure to look me up and you can take one of my 355's for a spin

Dear Dave,

Thanks for the offer but I do not know how to drive one of these modern Ferraris what with synchros and discs brakes and left hand drive...

While surfing the web today I also came across the following photo which is one of my favorite views.

Robert,

Your car is now ruined by the snow so I insist that you ship it to me so I can make it right for you

Dear Dave,

This is not the first time for snow. Back in 1962 when driving from Oakland to Staten Island I drove through a blizzard while crossing the continental divide in New Mexico and the heater was not working!

Best regards,

Robert

General- Amazing, they actually do not melt. Nice contrast between the blue and the snow.

Admiral,
What's that device on the back wheel?

Of all the narcissists I know, I love me the most.
