Dear little blue car followers,

Last year I was invited to show the little blue car at an Antique and Classic Auto Show to be held at the Rockville, MD Civic Center Park. Unfortunately for only the second time in 30 some odd years they had to cancel both the regular date and the following weekend rain date due to really bad rainy weather. Apparently this year the appropriate supplicants were made with the result that the day was absolutely cloudless, with bright sunshine and a cool breeze.

Twenty four different car clubs were represented including a special display section for nearly 50 Italian vehicles. All in all probably close to 400 cars were present and provided a truly eclectic mix.

It had an unexpected ending when the Mayor announced that the little blue car had won the most votes for the "People's Choice" Award. With all the great cars out there I was truly surprised, particularly in view of the fact that I did not know until lunchtime that I was supposed to put a sheet on the car with a number for people to use for the vote! Further I did not find my own ballot until after the show. While all of the other trophies awarded to this car have been the result of inspections, interrogations and decisions by knowledgeable Ferrari expert concours judges, this one tells me that a lot of other people also like my little blue car.

Over the past two years and nine shows the car has garnered 20 trophies. I compiled the following list so that in this thread there is a summary of those awards.

8/08 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance - 1st in Class - Competition Ferraris 100 point car
8/08 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance - Enzo Trophy - Best Ferrari on field
1/09 Cavallino Classic XVIII Concorso d’Eleganza - Best of Show Competition Ferrari 100 point car
1/09 Cavallino Classic XVIII Concorso d’Eleganza - 4 Cylinder Ferrari Cup
1/09 Cavallino Classic XVIII Concorso d’Eleganza - Platinum Award
1/09 Classic Sports Sunday at Mar-A-Lago - Finest Competition Car
1/09 Classic Sports Sunday at Mar-A-Lago -Vintage Spirit Award
5/09 25th Annual Reading Ferrari Concours d’Elegance - Best of Show 100 point car
5/09 25th Annual Reading Ferrari Concours d’Elegance - Best Competition Ferrari
5/09 25th Annual Reading Ferrari Concours d’Elegance - Platinum Award
7/09 FCA National Meet Concours -Platinum Award
7/09 FCA National Meet Concours - Forza Award - Best 50’s car
8/09 Milwaukee Masterpiece Concours d'Elegance - Best Competition Ferrari

Best regards,

Robert (still living the dream!)

Admiral,

What a fruitful decision you made by purchasing Blue back in the day. Another well deserved price would be: "Best Rejoicing of a Ferrari".

Congratulations and keep enjoying Blue!

Congrats again! The Little Blue Car was the hit of the show, and I never tire of seeing and hearing it.

current Ferraris: 1995 F355 Spider, 2000 360F1 Modena

Stand up and be counted, or lay down and be mounted.

Wonderful noise, wonderful sight. Ah, to drive the MM in that! I just love the Barchettas, my alltime favourite cars, whether 4, 6 or 12 cylinders. Fortunately there are always several participating in the Mille Miglia and to see them on the road is just magic. I've driven behind them a couple of times, just breathtaking.

Question, Bryan - have you ever considered having a professional video made about your dad's car, like the wonderful video Jan Biekens had made about his 156? I'm sure you could get it done for free since it has such a great story attached.

I think that is a great idea, Onno. We are lucky to have f-lifer Ken Visser in our region, who is a videographer for the Discovery Channel. I'll discuss w him.

Finally the little blue car is going to a car event which is not a beauty or originality or historical provenance contest. Richard Garre and Tom Yang are having their Fourth Annual All Italian Vintage Car Event on Saturday May 7, 2011 at the Radcliffe Motorcar Company in Reisterstown, Maryland.
So those of you who have not heard all my sea stories about the car come on along and make up your own mind as to which of the stories to believe...

Best regards,

Robert

+1. Indeed, one may be able to see one in stasis, but unlikely to see one in action like that. Thank You. w/ smiles Jimmy

thanks for the video admiral. you guys in europe should fly over for cavallino some time. on a good year you can see a couple dozen similar cars out on the track driven pretty hard. A walk through the pits is pretty exciting too. I'm sure they have similar events in europe though..
