Bryan- Great photos and the workmanship is outstanding. Will she be at the Santa Fe Councourse in September? Might try and make it to that. Your mother and father did a touch and go here last month and hope to see them again soon.

Dear Fellow Dinosaurs,

Thanks Bryan for these unusual shots. Look back at post #279 and the 8th photo. In the upper right corner you can see the serial number 31 and date on the side of the steering box. This steering box was in the 1954 LeMans winning 375 Plus serial #0396 driven by Trintignant and Gonzales. After that race the car was sold to John Edgar who hired Jack McAfee to run the 1954 Carrera Panamericana during which McAfee had a bad crash which killed his co-driver Ford Robinson. The wreck was returned to Ferrari for rebuilding. In that process the steering box was apparently put back on the shelf at about the same time a steering box was needed for the completion of my car. As a happy result, part of my car is a LeMans winner!

See you guys at Elkhart.

Best regards,

Robert

Dear 212Export,

That drive is quite doable, although when I drove this car from Oakland, California to Bayonne, New Jersey in 1963 the roads were quite a different matter. However the car has to go to Elkhart Lake first for the 50th FCA National Meet, then on to New Mexico.

Terry, yes our first visit was really too short, and you should plan on the Santa Fe Concorso toward the end of September as we will be there with TLBC, and will have plenty of time to talk more.

Best regards

Robert

Understood ! Thanks for sharing those great pictures. It deeply enhances the imagineability of every diehard afficionado. Everything on the little blue just looks so crisp and beautiful and as simple...obviously ready for ANY National Meet. Congratulations. Looking at you 500 Mondial, half of the modern F-cars look like monsters beside. Nothing against those modern "whales" but a lot for a tiny "500".

With all of the hustle and bustle of getting ready for the big move to Santa Fe, NM I let the 53rd anniversary of my ownership of the pretty blue car go by. That 53 years of custodianship began on the 24th of June 1960. Wow, time really flies when you are having fun.

Best regards,

Robert

Admiral,

That's tremendous! Congratulations on the milestone.

I'm coming up on 40 years with my little Triumph roadster. You give me something to shoot for!

When is the big move? I get back from deployment at the end of the month, just in time to drive the Spider in DC's sweltering August weather!

VR,
David

Dear David,

It is amazing how fast the years go by. Can you believe that my Navy retirement happened a quarter of a century ago this fall!

Sorry to miss you on your return to DC, but the call of low humidity and clean air and milky way stars so bright you can practically reach out and touch them really beckons. The moving van(s) should be loaded and on the road West by next Wednesday.

Which Triumph have you?

Best regards,

Robert

For the six of my followers the following is an update on our travails and travels.

Attached is the photo of TLBC being loaded by David Carte and crew at the old Arlington address before we had all our household goods packed and loaded into the 18 wheeler carrying Bryan's household goods as well. Last Tuesday they unloaded Bryan's things into shuttle trucks as the 18 wheeler in no way could make it up to Bryan's new hilltop home overlooking Santa Fe, NM. On Wednesday they unloaded all my goods into the garage and the guest house (stacked to the ceiling) as the main house has not finished the remodeling project yet. So we are living in my sister's one bedroom condo with the things we brought with us on the cross country drive last week. On the 30th we fly to Milwaukee and then drive on to Elkhart Lake for the FCA National at Road America. By then David Carte will have shipped TLBC on to Wayne Obry who will bring it to Road America for me. Eventually it will be shipped to Santa Fe in time for the Santa Fe Concorso at the end of September. Sometime in that schedule the house will be finished and we can complete the unpacking, sorting, putting away job.

At our age things are supposed to be simpler than all this! Really looking forward to the track time at Road America. Those of you who are attendng please come past and say Hi.

Best regards,

Admiral, thanx for the updates. Safe moving ! Understand the unusual heat wave situation over there. It is plenty hot and humid here too.

Actually, Jimmy, Santa Fe is typically spared the brutal SW heat because we are up in the mountains - Santa Fe is about 7000 feet elev, and my house is a little over 7600. Temp this morning was 59 and I don't think it was past 82 this afternoon; and DRY!

I'll see whomever is coming to the National next week!

Admiral - when you get a chance and are settled into the new house, post a pick of the new garage with the Mondial in it. The earlier pics of the house and mountains looked spectacular!
All the best to you, Bryan and the entire family.
We miss you here.

Ed's tears are real because he still wants to drive the Mondial.

Just a quick update, Intercity arrived from the FCA National at Road America with the Mondial. It is now back in New Mexico for the first time since 1963 when I stopped while driving from Oakland to Staten Island. It will be awhile before it gets its own garage.

Best regards,

It must be a real treat for you to have the Mondial back in NM and in the great condition that it is in, Admiral.

Dear Josh,

You are absolutely correct. I do have some clean up to do after the two days of track time at Road America but I still have over a month until the Santa Fe Concorso. Finally a show I can drive to.

Best regards,

Robert

I suspect you will be reliving your youth, polishing up the Mondial in preparation for the local show and getting up early to drive it out there. Seems poetic.
