ex-Ken Starbird Comp Daytona 15985

I photographed it once when Starbird owned it but no chance of finding color slides in storage.
Anyway I guess it's established he trade two mid-engine cars for it, a smashed 250LM and a mid-engine P car. But I am more interested in hearing what Don Fong bought it for. Was this the Daytona that hit the wall, that Otto Zipper sponsored, and had to be rebuilt in a couple of days? I guess after Starbird decided he didn't want to drive a race car on the street anymore he traded it through Walt McCune for two Mercedes, maybe an SL and an SLC and McCune later sold it to Switzerland (anybody got a price?) .

Only interested in this long ago time period, back when I saw it in person on a few occasions (hey, I live in the past...) thanks for any old memories...PS about the remarks about steering, Tony told me that when he raced it, it was so tough to steer with racing rubber that his hands were bleeding at the end of his session (a new kind of stigmata?)

Starbird Daytona

Interesting.....I worked on this car at 24HRS Daytona in '76.In fact it finished the race with the ball joints from my Daytona(13413) because the race cars were faulty. We also took the torque tube from Dr. Stephens black Daytona Spyder and put it into the race car.We finished 10th overall. After I arrived back at home I received brand new ball joints for my car. After that I don't remember what happened to that Daytona.I too have photos......somewhere.
