I just saw this yellow car at the Friends of Steve McQueen concours in Chino Hills,CA
The show honored several cars that were either in McQueen's table or in his movies, like his Jag XKSS.
I was wondering after seeing the NART spyder, is it true that McQueen was driving it on Pacific Coast Highway and someone , surprised to see him, hit the brakes and his car was totaled? I am surprised that aluminum coachbuilders could repari it in America or was it sent back to Italy?
Was it dark blue at the time, lacking the front and rear bumpers?
Also I tried that website that records car histories by SN but it had nothing on the car, except a picture and the caption it was one of ten so I was wondering if anyone who keeps old classifieds knows what the lowest price this car was advertised at its low point, what year that was? Maybe when the movie company was done filming The Thomas Crown Affair?
Appreciate any clues. Incidentally I made a painting of a dark blue one seen in Monterey but don't know how to post pictures but can send the image to anyone who writes me. [email protected]
