On the ex-Henry Manney III 250GTO

I was offered this car in 1969 around Dec. when I was cut off on the road leading to Road & Track's office in Newport Beach by a very smokey dark car which I did not recognize as a GTO. When I got to the parking lot Henry introduced himself and asked me if I wanted the car for $14,000. I was a little shocked anyone would want to sell a car that smoked that much and forgot about it but here 4 decades later I am wondering what he actually sold it for. I think he sold it to Chris Cord, who might have been the grandson of EL Cord. I thought I read $8,000 and change but would like to hear from anyone on this forum who remembers what he was offering it at. The prices on this model were fast rising as when I was later working in West Hollywood and Chuck Queener took me for a ride is Steve Earle's 250GTO, which was restored, they were already around $97,000 which is what Steve sold it for to a Japanese.

I heard the actual sale price was in the region of $18-20K, but do not remember where I heard that. 5111 was a pretty pure GTO, so somebody got a good deal. I loved Manney's story of picking up the GTO and stopping at the Italian border and letting the border guards sit in her.

I think you are referring to 4293GT which Steve Earle sold to Tohro Horinouchi in 1982. He sold 5571GT to Cordozo in 1968.

Onno- Affirmative, do not believe 5111 passed through Steve Earle. 5111 is the GTO that was recently sold privately for $52M, making it the highest price, by far, car ever sold.

Chris Cord owned several different 250 GTOs over the years.

He was not only related to E.L. Cord but his mother remarried Doheney. As in Doheny Drive and Doheney Mansion in Beverly Hills, Doheney Eye Clinic and Union Oil. It was his step dad that owned the 121LM that McAfee died in at Pebble Beach.

That is the same 121LM that Chris resurrected and restored then sold to Bill Ziering.
