"D" with a better smell

Mechanic found out that "D's" fuel tank had a small crack on the upper side of the left tank part. What I always thought is a common issue smell wise with a vintage car in the trunk area became a welcome consideration to get away with. Both tanks went out this week for brazing/solder/welding and after that ....coating again. When out, they changes all tubes as well (20 years old). The pictures show why "D" will drive about 800 km's with 1 fuel tank load...

.....while at work, it was decided to change the old "crumpy" ignition cables, less because of disfunction (which may soon would arise anyway) but more because of correctness as the old wires had some loosening outside Isolation material. Interestingly, the new one's are now "numbered" by each cable with little with plastic marks. (May help to get around false application)

212- Little by little everything is getting fixed. Those tanks now look indestructible and the wires look great. White silicone insulating pieces add to the look.

Very nice work.
Just a word of warning. If you replaced the large rubber tank balancing connecting hoses, keep a close eye on them. The new ones I bought from Maranello were porous and leaked within a day. I had to get some new ones made with a coating on the outside to make them look old!

Weber equipped Ferraris have a distinctive and pleasant smell, but leaking gasoline is not one of them. The tanks look brand new.

Today, after driving another 2'500 km's in the last 3 weeks with "D", I went to my mechanic again to check the spark plug picture and fine adjust the carbs again. Over the time of 3 weeks, the carb Setup prooved just slightly (really slightly) meager so that on certain Occasion, some "bangs" came out of the exhaust. My mechanic fine calibrated that again by readjusting the carbs, rechecking and measuring every idle and normal Jet and showing me exactly how that has to be done. It was a very interesting morning for me. Every 20 minutes or so I rewent for a testdrive with the mechanic to test the result of the slight changements. In Addition he used the testing probe by putting it in the exhaust to fine calibrate all differences between Hearing, sounding and measuring of the carb Setup. After 1 hour calibrating all sic double Webers on each side the result spoke for itself: no "Shooting" in the exhaust anymore and a "kill" to drive.

After, we repaired/replaced part of the wiper Motor, where the long string was not working in the correct way, actually only the electrical Connection had to be replaced after all.

It was a great day, leaning over "D" and its internals for several hours and learning intersting things. Definitively better than the usual office days.

212- Webers were always fun to tune. Still have my little bubble synchronizer that I have not used since 1983.
