Glorified death of a GTC

Grant posted this on Ferrarichat. Personally, this makes me feel ill. For me, there are so few GTC's remaining, and I feel so close to them, that this display just ticks me off.

Perhaps I am overreacting.

What a sad use of a 330. Wonder what the reason for doing this was. A very badly wrecked chassis with little hope of repair?

without a SN how do you believe it was a real example of a completed car?

It could have been, for all intensive purposes, a revitalized Andrews-like hulk given a new lease on life.

Onno, I almost always agree with your assessments, but this might be over the top reaction...and I'm only guessing to that display being what I think it is.

With those fender vents it looks like 2+2

Brian- Affirmative, it was a 2+2, not a GTC. Could have come from one of the butchered ones. Nobody has butchered GTCs that I have seen.

I didn't notice that, it seems the rear is from a GTC and the front from a 2+2. According to Grant the rear didn't come from a chassis number but he doesn't know where the front came from. Seems unlikely to me that there was no chassis with it at some point in its life.

My word, what work that would be!

No thanks, my TVR project needs attention first.

@Marcel - thanks!

I dont think it came from a 2+2 because to my knowledge no 2+2 (single head light) had those type of thin slotted vents - this is an early Series 1 feature which had twin headlights on each side. Also the slightly more protruding nose is not a 330GT feature.

ilooked at the photos of my old 330 Gt Series 2 (#8101) and these clips are not from a 330GT. Here is the bad news, I think they came from an eartly 275 GTS. The rear clip does not have the pronounced ridges of a 330GT but does look like the softer rear deck fusion of fenders and trunk of a 275 GTS. Also, the tail light configuration matches an early 275GTS and not a 330GT. Both the early 275 GTS and the Series1 330GT had the 4-3-4 side vent slot configuration. Later production 330GTs and 275GTS went with the side vent configuration found on the 330GTC. If I am correct and if these are not fake clips, a sad end for a great and rare Ferrari. Says a lot for a store calledd GTO to display a butchered icon for marketing purposes. History has no meaning for some.

Good observation and somewhat agree. But the nose does not look a typical Pninfarina: pics I see have a more blunt/rounded nose. This looks like a variant or a 330 with 275 gills? More likely a 500 Superfast front..lord I hope not.

I'm guessing it's not a real car.
Perhaps the whole thing is a fabrication, albeit with some genuine trim parts?
Or perhaps it came from an unsalvageable wreck?

Of all the narcissists I know, I love me the most.

The rear clip was from the wreak of a RHD GTC that happened years ago, BPF43H was 365 GTC chassis number xxxxxx. Grigio Mahmoud with light blue interior and first registered in March 1970.
Most of the car Chassis/ engine etc, was made into some sort of racing special 30 odd years ago, so i was told. In a mad moment, I bought the left over bits and the rear clip, which GTO bought off me. [ it was not in great shape, it had been out side for 30 odd years under a tarp, it looked like the roof had been cut off by the fire service]. All the bits that came with it, I sold on e-bay and sent them all over the world, to be used in restoration projects.

The front, I would think was just an old clip, which had been replaced at some point with a new one, and made up for the stand with any parts that GTO had in stock.

Don't feel bad Onno, no Ferrari was destroyed to make this.

Confirming what Grant just posted the rear clip looks like a GTC to me. Both the 275 and 330 GTS rear clips have a fender that lifts slightly upward from the edge of the trunk lid out to the side before turning down. The GTC has only a rounded and sloping downward top of fender shape. I know them well as my dad had a GTS while I had a GTC. I washed and waxed those cars so many times I knew the shape in my sleep!

The "mini-me" clone of the 275/330 GTS rear clip can be seen on Fiat 124 Spiders.

Back in the 70s you could buy these front and rear clips from Ferrari. I saw one installed on a GTC that had been in an accident. The shop found out after the fact that it would have been easier to fix the damaged nose than install the NOS version. The new nose didn't fit and had to be cut and reshaped.
