F1 gearbox light

Recently i attempted to reverse my 360 into my garage but it kept dropping into neutral. I had to switch off the ignition and try again several times before I finally got it into the space in my garage.
I panicked a little when the gearbox symbol lit up on the dashboard! Looking in my manual this indicates a fault with the F1 gearbox.
Since then I have had to move the car small distances inside the garage and no symbol is showing.
Has anyone had experience of this?

One reason for this I have seen on the net was a poor connection on the switch that detects the engine cover being open. The car goes into gear then drops out again. I may be wrong but worth a look.

There are any number of reasons for the F1 gearbox light. Your best bet is to connect to an SD2 and get it figured out properly.

Well I'm pleased to report that I think the problem was no oil in the filler bottle.
Don't know why but I have filled it, warmed the engine, waited 5 minutes and checked. Needed a little more but no light on dashboard - thank goodness as I'm off to Le Mans on Saturday - and all gears are selecting OK.
Will keep you all posted after the weekend.
PS checked the sensor on rear engine cover and cleaned it just to be safe.

Glad your problem was resolved (at least for now).

SD2 is the factory software system for diagnostics, installed on a laptop. There are quite a few things on your Ferrari that cannot be fine tuned unless the SD2 software is used. It was VERY expensive, when new, but has dropped in price in recent years. There are still many 'specialists' that cannot service a 360 properly if there is a suspected electronics problem. But more and more specialists will be able to cover such eventualities.

Well just did a 1500kms trip to Le Mans and back and the car behaved faultlessly.
This is my first long stint since bringing it from Germany to France and I am really impressed.
How do I get hold of SD2 software. I have a specialist in Poitiers who deals in Porsches but I hope he will be able to maintain my Ferrari also.

The SD-2 tester is a Ferrari-specific hardware and software-based diagnostic tool. It is both expensive and extremely difficult to find. Find a Ferrari specialist, properly equipped to work on your particular car. You'll be much happier in the long run.
