Scuderia 16M: Opinions ?

Some of you may know from before that I have been checking out 16M lately, coming awfully close to acquiring a white one. For reasons both valid and silly, I opted out and laid down $ for a 575 SA instead.

Seems like my "fever" is not healed still. Have been keeping my radar up since. Since the white fiasco, a Grigio Silverstone 16M popped up, but was not a very good one.

Another 16M showed up but was gone in relatively short time before I did anything. It was a black and maybe that is the reason I did not move.

Within the past week, yet another black metallic w/ red tac, red brake calipers, and seat stitchings surfaced in southern Japan. Did some inquiries and so far the pulse I get is not bad.

The drawbacks, no original wheels, instead she wears the 458 wheels. Color is black metallic. Two owners with 8k km. No other modifications. Racing stripes appear to be silver.

So now, I am inquiring, half serious but the other half saying why. Still self analyzing with no answers. Not sure asking for opinions is appropriate. Simply putting down in words the status quo.

Jimmy- 458 wheels do not fit Scuderias, wrong bolt pattern, 5 x 108 mm 16M, 5 x 114.3 mm 458. The wheels that eventually became optional on the 458 were actually first seen (very close in style) on the 16M and are a very desirable option. Much prettier than the Scud wheels and forged tougher, too.

So if that is all that is holding you back....

Terry, thanx for those photos. Looks like I do not know a thing at all regarding what is proper or not !

I uploaded few shots from the website but they were rather small and not too good.
You can verify the wheels for me...

I know what you are saying,....but there are voices in my head telling me different things. They are whispering to me.

So far, all I have is minimum informations from the ad and over the phone talk with the salesperson. It is a consignment car so their take is commission only. The owner seems willing and the car does look pretty proper in those pics. I simply have to justify this rash action of mine. I asked for some more facts so it would be few more days for that.

Hi Jimmy,

I am not keen on nero or dark colours for the 16M as I like seeing the contrasts of CF and stripes. Having said that, the wheels are really nice.

In Australia we have to jump on whatever is available but you have a choice in Japn.

Why don't you look at 16M photos and pre decide what colour combinations you love and which ones you don't?

If the nero is your colour, then if it checks out ok, you will love it.

Best of luck mate.

David.

David, to be utterly honest, black is not my first choice. Thus, this factor contributes to one of my dilemmas. You may be correct in saying that there may be a little more choice over here in Japan, but all I see are black, grey, and white. There is one red like yours with a blue top with only 68km ! Do not bother asking the price. (It is crazy).

I would wait and see how things would fall when the coin hits the ground.

Looks like the car has the titanium exhaust pipe tips installed. I can't tell for sure if they are the Ferrari made tips but if the exhaust is original they probably are I would guess.

That is a top notch 16M all the goodies - can't tell if it has the lower cf side skirts.

There is not a better limited edition all around Ferrari.

Get it - prices are climbing and that one shows well.

You know it took Boxer years to come around - any regrets I will gladly take it off your hands.

Jimmy- Those are OEM wheels and very nice. I really like that wheel style. Love the red technical fabric on the seats. That and the red stitching make for a very pretty interior.

She looks perfect and, unlike me, you do not live in the desert, so black works fine as long as she is kept spotless, like your SA. This is another Ferrari that can only go up in value, with only 499 claimed built by Ferrari. Plus the top goes down all the way, so a good complement to your SA.

I am not a fan of the black. With the (black) top up, it basically looks like a Scuderia at first glance. Just my opinion.

Collectively, thanx for all the comments so far. Much appreciated.

Got hold of the service records last night and going over them. It is well maintained at dealers and all seems proper.

Few corrections, she is a three owner car with OEM wheels replaced few years back and also the exhaust tips were replaced by Cornes, OEM, I believe,...it does say titaniums. Wheels were around 10k and tips were about 4k US$, both by Cornes Tokyo.

The only concern I have in the history, informed by the middleman shop, was regarding the first owner's experience with gears had incidents shifting to 6 when trying from 2nd to 3rd. Owner stated this happened couple times at around 1500km, checked but nothing unusual found. Since, no reports by the successive owners.

The VIN# is 168963.

The 16M is really a special car to drive. I think you will be very happy should you get one.

One recommendation as a very easy non intrusive, reversible and inexpensive mod is the Capristo valve switch. Makes the car sound like the monster it is when you want it to. Valves open mode makes even a slow drive down the street to get some ice cream exciting.

Onno, yes...red with blue top as below. This car has only 98km clocked. Asking price is up there. I do like the red, but as you say the blue top (?), not sure. Have not seen the car in person.
