F430 expected oil temperature

I've noticed since I got my F430 that I have never observed the oil temperature exceed about 143 degrees fahrenheit - just a couple of notches from the left hand side of the gauge. This is under normal driving conditions, with an outside air temperature up to the mid-50s.

The owner's manual states "Do not run the engine at high speeds until the engine oil temperature has reached at least 149-158 deg f".

This leads me to think that I may have a bad thermostat. What kind of oil temps are expected in similar circumstances?

Thanks!

Greg- Depends on the length of the trip. For short trips, oil temperature may never come up to equilibrium temperature. Each mark on your oil temperature gauge is 18.33 F, so the third mark is 146.67 F and the fourth is 165 F, with the first at 110 F. It usually takes around 10 minutes for oil temperature to reach around 160F and how high it goes relates to how she is driven and outside temperature.

You could also have a bad oil temperature sender or a bad connection at the sender. Might be worth cleaning the connector contacts and seeing if that improves things. Quite common on the V12s, not sure about the V8s.

Thanks for the information Terry. I see the temp just above the 3rd mark after about 20 minutes of driving between 3-4.5k rpm (not driving aggressively but not dragging around in auto mode either).

Greg- Sounds kind of low, so checking the sender connectors is the cheapest fix, if it works.

Maybe one of the pros can chime in.

Actually the gauge on the 430 starts at 120 (at least that's the number on the left hand side). So at just above the 2nd mark the temp is actually right about 157 which seems to be OK by the manual. Thanks for clarifying for me what that each interval on the gauge is 18.33.

Greg- Good, I looked in the owners manual, but must have misread the gauge. Starts at 120 in my 575M, too, and I consider the third mark fully warmed. Temperature still goes up sometimes, but 156.67 is fine by me for romping on her.
