register euro car in ca

This car has many issues that need to be delt with before I lay down the cash. The car was imported into CA but never registered here. It has out of state plates on it and I need to get it smogged before I get it in my name. I used to smog cars here but never got into the out of country situation. As far as I know it just has to have the right emission equipment and pass out the tail pipe. The only thing that I have a problem with is the precat air injection. I not taken the cover to see where the tube goes from the AIS rails. Has anyone dealt with a euro car and the AIS system?

Jack- You probably need a CARB sticker. Do some research on what is required to get that if she was never certified to CA standards.

It has been a while since I have been in the business, If the car fax shows that it was first registered out of the state, it would just have to comply with the 49 state regs. l guess I would have to go through the BAR in CA to get the sticker. This will be a nightmare but I have months to get it done!! It has a miss in the engine, I am going to have the local ferrari mechanic look it over and make sure it does not have low comp on a cyl. Other than that I don't think that there would be a big problem getting it to run right. The car is located 500 mi from my repair shop/hobby shop.

here is the pic of the emission sticker below. I called the number on the US installed sticker pictured and he said that is NOW needs to meet CA emissions. He said that nothing new has to be added but the converters need to working real good and the computer needs to be re calibrated. He said that NOX is the big problem to overcome. Don't know how to do this other than an EGR or after burner. Maybe retarded timing curve?

Jack- Looks good to me. See if you can pass emissions and register her.

Like I said, I used to do smogs 20 years ago. I called the BAR in CA to let me know EXACTLY what needs to be done. I will wait to get the BAR ruling and get it in writing. They make the rules as far as I know!!!!
