Manual 360 gear shift issue (3rd gear crunch)

Hi,
I am new to the forum and I have read up as much as I can but I can't see anyone with the same problem as me.

I have a Manual 360 and have recently had a new clutch fitted. When I drive the car feels great but I can't get into 3rd gear. No matter what I do:

(2nd-3rd change)
(4th-3rd change)
(2nd-Neutral-3rd change)
(4th-Neutral-3rd change)

When the car is parked I can get it into 3rd.

The gear shifter surround hasn't been removed so I dont think it is an issue with alignment of that, any other suggestions? When the car went to the garage it didn't have any issues with going into gear.

Thanks a lot
Luke

Luke- Welcome to Ferrari Life. Odds are you need a new shifter bushing. The OEM bushings are plastic and split easily. Hill Engineering makes an aluminum replacement sold here by Ricambi America that may cure the problem. There are other bushings on the other end that can cause problems. Your tech should be able to diagnose the issue and preemptively changing the shifter bushing is a good idea.

Thanks for your reply. Would this really cause an issue for just 3rd? Would it not take out all the top gears 1/3/5? Cheers

If 3rd is the only gear that you have any trouble with, instinct says there's a good chance the 3rd gear syncro is toast. Otherwise, hopefully a shifter cable adjustment or even shift fork adjustment inside the gearbox will remedy the concern.

Ok thanks. Is there a guide anywhere on either of those adjustments?

Luke- You can download a workshop manual for free at ferraridatabase.com. Josh is the pro here, so you can believe what he says.

That doesn't happen in any other gear? Does it crunch while driving on the road and making shifts as well?

I had a clients 550 manual gearbox with third gear grinding when driving. Sure enough it was a internal worn fork and worn syncro. The client was always leaning on shifter when he was in third gear.
After replacing those two parts , the gearbox shifts like a hot knife through butter.

I dropped a quarter down my shifter gate in the TR once and had a similar problem until I pulled it out with a pair of forceps. No grinding though. Very perplexing until I figured it out.

Hi. Yes it does it everytime you make the shift into 3rd.

Is this classed as excess play in the shifter or is this normal?

That is normal movement in the shift linkage. Since 3rd is the ONLY gear you have any trouble with, it's most likely a synchro issue.
