Key Codes: Questions

I am a bit confused regarding the security codes with Ferrari's.

The dealer has one key (red) for the F430.

The radio system was upgraded so I believe the radio code no longer is required

However, my concern is duplicating the key. Can this be done without the security code and only using the red key fob?

I have a Ducati 848, and it is possible to replicate the key without a security code, but its not a very smooth and pain free process.

Would you walk away from a F430 that only has one key and no security code?

F430 keys/fobs are not the same as earlier Ferraris. The F430 and all later Ferraris use a modern, lithium battery powered fob/key programmed into the alarm system. The alarm system can accept up to 7 different keys/fobs. You can buy new ones (very expensive) from a Ferrari dealer with an SD3. He will then flush the entire alarm memory and reprogram it to accept the old fob and the new fob. Much easier to use system than the old two key, three separate fob system on the 360 (7.3) and 5.2 and early 7.1.1 Ferraris. If you make a deal on this F430, I would make them providing two keys, or splitting the cost, as part of the deal. One fob is just too chancey.

If you do not have an F430 owners manual yet, download one for free at ferraridatabase.com. They have a US 2006 OM posted for download. They also have other tech data, including an early, incomplete workshop manual for the F430.

There is only one key, but they have the security codes. What are the costs? I am seeing 1000 from my searches.

Ricambi has a "call", but Maranello Classic Parts has one for $475, special order, which is no sweat there.

Ask for two keys

Just before you sign-- and the salesperson is tasting the sale- say- I'd really like y'all to provide a second key.......

You can ask.

Definitely try to get them to provide the key or at least split the cost and do the programming for free. My 430 came with one key and no codes. It cost $500 just to get the codes from Ferrari!!

The dealer was good, he paid for sparks and filter approx 600. So I am fine with one key. he also will be providing the codes. I would be hesitant without codes.

I dont want to take advantage to save 500, he has a business to operate and I have an experience to begin.

Well said. Best way to leave a deal is fair for both. I usually ask for things which cost them less but would cost me more and we both feel good.

Pick it up yet?

Exactly.

Delivery was scheduled yesterday, but clutch servicing took a bit longer than anticipated (no fault of the dealer).

Anticipating to pick it up today. Gosh, I cant believe I own a Ferrari.

Will be posting pictures etc over the next few days.
