Tire help please

I just purchased a set of 430 rims for my 360 spider. I need to get tires and need some advice. Recommendations - michelin super sport? Open to suggestions. Sizes - I don't want to mess up the ASR. Also if anyone is in Ontario, Canada can they tell me a good place to purchase tires. I see that Costco stock the above tire and sell for about $300.00 a tire. Thanks in advance.

I did same as you ... put on F430 rims on my 360 back in December. I got the Michellin Pilot Super Sports ... same size as if you had the F430. The look nice, come with a warranty (although the rear tire warranty is half the front), and, I am told, they handle better than OEM tires. I can say they handle very well, but I don't push the limits.

Regards,

Steve

Only the very early 360s seemed to have problems with ABS/ASR if F430/Challenge Stradale size tires were fitted. Your 2003, like Steve said, should handle and brake great with MPSS in sizes 225/35 19 and 285/35 19. Paradoxically, ride may improve, too, because of the tires.

Just watch out for potholes, since they tend to bend F430 wheels because of the small amount of rubber between wheel and tire, especially in front.

+1 for the MPSS tires. I too have a 360 with OEM 430 rims. Purchase the tires to size for a 430 and you will be fine. The 360 and 430 share the same chassis and multiple body and suspension parts.

Here are a couple of pics of my 360 with the 430 wheels and MPSS tires

Great looking spider. I recommend a wheel alignment once the new wheel and tires are mounted.

Good advice. I always have a full ride height adjustment and 4 wheel alignment done with new tires or wheels.

I have a personal preference for MPSS. MPSS2 in my opinion dry out and wear quicker.

And another twin but with Scud Style boots and MPSS.

I didn't know there was a MPSS2? Sure this isn't the MPS2 which is superseded by the MPSS? Someone should be able to clarify??
Cheers

Never heard of MPSS2. There were MPS, MPS2, and MPS3 tires, but have not heard of Super Sport 2s.

Those are Pilot Sport 2 tires that have been out for about a decade. The newest Michelin for ultra high performance summer use is the Michelin Pilot Super Sport, which was introduced on the 599 GTO in 2011.

See this for the MPSS, not the MPS2.

Thanks I did buy the MPSS - from a tire depot in Quebec - very good price. 575er beautiful car and beautiful rims - I bid on those 2 weeks ago on Ebay - maybe I lost to you. I purchased a set of 430 rims for $2,000. They were off of a owner of a car dealership - less than 1,000 miles on them. Very happy with them, but also love those dark grey scuderia rims. Well done.

Sorry
I grabbed the wrong link earlier. . You seem to like tire rack so here it is from their site.

FYI confirm manufacturing dates on tire rack tires before purchase. Some of their stock is old.

Those are Pilot Sport Cup 2s, a DOT legal race tire like the P Zero Corsas. Completely different from the Super Sports, which are street tires that work for occasional track use.

The Sport Cups and Sport Cup 2s are race tires that are legal for the street. Have been available on things like Viper ACRs and Corvette Z06s with Z07 package and ZR1s. Will be available on the 2015 Z06.

The SC2s do have a higher wear rating, 180, than many similar tires, which may be as low as 60.

I picked the scud style rims up at Christmas new from a main dealer clearing out stock before the new year....just got lucky. I was actually looking for F430 rims which look sensational on the Nero spiders but there weren't any to be had. Also I wanted to go to 19" rim size so I could get the MPSS tyres which aren't available in 18" here.

Cheers
Michael

Hi Guys, I just want to say thanks again for all of the feedback. After changing the oil, the transmission fluid, the coolant, doing an alignment, changing the gear u clip, and putting on the new rims I finally got my car out of the shop and on the road today. It is a beautiful sunny 77 degree day today. First drive in nearly 7 months. It felt great with the sound, new tires, and top down. I think the rims really freshen the car up. Still have the CEL on but we are going to replace coils 1 and 8, but first I'm trying a bottle of techron as recommended by a few members on this site. Thanks again guys. Here she is with her new shoes on.

She looks great. Enjoy her this summer and fall, which hopefully will be longer than it was last year.
