Hunting and Gathering

Greetings all,

My name is Rick from Portland, OR. Recently I decided to act on a life long desire to own a Ferrari. After conversations with 'Boxer', I am in the process of evaluating a very nice 360 coupe in Portland, no less. I thought the adventure of hunting and obtaining would take months. Yet, shortly after joining Ferrari Life to learn about Ferraris, I am in the virtual midst of negotiations. First, many thank yous to all of the posts I have read. They have informed me greatly, and I do hope I can meet some of you in person at some point. As a former Lotus owner and current BMW owner, car lovers are some of the best folks to meet.

Timing is PPI review tomorrow, test drive and negotiations on Thursday.

I apologize in advance, as this is more of a blog than not, but I felt I needed to provide some feedback from all of the great help I have received.

Cheers,
Rick

Rick:

I guessed at your email address and tried to send you a checklist for inspecting a 360. It really helped me when I bought mine. Let me know if you get the Email and can read the checklist OK.

Welcome to the forum.
You'll love the 360, and hanging out here too.

Of all the narcissists I know, I love me the most.

Your Email was returned. Apparently I guessed wrong. So I sent you a private message on this forum. Check your inbox.

Thank you for the welcomes and encouragement! I just received the verbal feedback on the PPI. It is a short list: battery, wipers, a little upholstery touch up. The big one is, I do not recall seeing when I first inspected the car, was the red master remote, only one black key. My god, they want blood for this! However, the Ferrari Service manager mentioned several times how nice of 360 this was. This being the NW, I hope to drive tomorrow, failing that Saturday at the latest, it is "promised" to be a beautiful sunny day. More to come....

Test drove the car today. It was amazing! My BMW 135i is tuned with 376 HO and 412 ft-lbs so I was not expecting to be overwhelmed. Was that a mistake! This car kicks butt and in a very good way! I love the 6 speed manual! PPI came back with battery replacement, dried windshield wipers and a tiny bit of upholstery repair. Compression check was great, brakes are virtually new. The dealership, Ron Tonkin, mentioned that this was an amazingly clean car. In Nero, it truly looks astounding...so i bought it! I will provide pictures once all the particulars are resolved.

Roberto- It is comcast.net, so that is why it probably bounced.

That explains it.

If you haven't run that checklist I sent, even if you've already purchased the car, you should still run through each and every item before you take delivery no matter how excited you are. Identifying even small things, like non functioning lights, can be important and now is the time to discuss these things with the dealership, not later.

Good luck. I don't have to say "enjoy your new car" because I know you will. Everyone does.

Greetings all,

Again thank you very much for your support and suggestions. I have gone through the checklist with the Ron Tonkin mechanic, kindly supplied by Mozella. I test drove the car and was stunned! I have a BMW 135i that is tuned to 376 BHP and 412 ft-lbs. I will say this, when i shifted from first to second it kicked me back in the seat in a way the BMW could not. The cornering capability is truly astounding! I know part of it is the mid-engine, but oh my gawd!

I have sealed the deal and waiting to take delivery once my driveway is re-worked so the car can get in and out without scrapes. When in my possession and the weather is better, I will post pictures from the Nike campus grounds.

My plan is to keep this car for some time and simultaneously maximize value, hence constraining myself not to put on too many miles is going to drive me crazy. On the upside, driving from November to April in the Northwest is a great moderator.

It is hard to believe: after 40 years after initially introducing myself to a physician in my town, Cheyenne, WY, whose 330GT 2+2 and 250 GT (Lusso) I hand washed and a Ferrari 275 GTS the bank my mom worked at repossessed that I could have bought for $20K, being an average HS kid was well out of my means, I finally have a gorgeous Ferrari! Just, fantastic!

BTW, if there is a NW Ferrari club, I would love to make contact.

Cheers,

Rick

Pictures will most likely wait until I get back from Asia, early May time frame. In the meanwhile I will hook up with Ferrari NW club.

Greetings,

I apologize for the long delay. Business travel, a quick detail and weather have conspired against me. Today I took pictures. Attached is the first of several I will post.

Cheers,

Rick
