Advice needed on swapping out stock seats

Hi everybody!

Spent the past hour searching for info, but only succeeded in making my eyes get sore! So I'm asking for advice.

My plan is to swap out the stock seats and replace them with a set of Recaros or something. Weight reduction and not liking the stock color are the reasons.

I just called the supplier and was advised against this because it'll cause problems with the airbag weight sensors?? I never knew anything about this!

Can any of you offer any input?? ....other than keeping the stock seats :-)

THANKS!!

George- There is an airbag weight sensor for the passenger seat that shuts off the airbag if the passenger weighs less than XX (80?) lbs. Do not know if it is possible to move it or shut it off. It appears the sensors were not implemented until Assembly Number 69895, so look and see what yours is.

The sensor package is a bit over $1000 from Ricambi, but not sure how you would adapt it to aftermarket seats. Contact Recaro and see if they offer one with the sensor, I guess, or find a set of the factory racing seats. Another option is that some electrical genius could probably design a simple shunt for you that would show the seat always full or always empty, depending on who you think will sit there.

Hi Terry!

Thanks for the reply! I was hoping you'd see this post :-)

The supplier I spoke to said if the seat was disconnected, the car would automatically revert to assuming a full weight person was seated there. Which is fine with me....there won't be any children riding with me. Does that sound correct?

Thanks for the heads up on the assembly number!!! Gonna head out to the garage and try to figure out what mine is. Keeping my fingers crossed that I'm a lower number! I don't really feel like spending the big $$$$ for factory race seats.

THANKS!!

George- If that is the way it works, great. Just as long as it does not illuminate a warning lamp. If you have an 05, not a problem.
