Convertible Roof Frame Cracks. :-(

Bad Times

The inner Plastic/Composite panel on the Passenger side of my convertible roof has cracked and split. Has anybody else encountered this problem and do I need an entirely new roof?

Kindest Regards
CR

I have seen two others - very common to fail.

Mine froze the other day but after restarting the car all was well.

No problems folks,

please be aware, this is a more recent exploded diagram, some independents are not aware of this parts existence as a stand alone part.

Enjoy!

I believe this part is broken when the center bow of the top is not pulled back on retraction. If you partially retract the top, you can look between the headliner and the top and see a strip of cloth that has detached from the bow. Compare the two sides as the bow seems to move independent on each side. If the bow does not swing back on top retraction then it will interfere with the top frame and cause this section to break. I think the section is magnesium and could be welded under the proper conditions.

Does anyone have a part number for this. Ask me why I need it.

I cant really explain what happened, but going on a ledge somewhat...
If the F430 uses dual motors to lower the top, then keeping them in synchro is an absolute must. Otherwise one side of the top lowers faster than the other and bam.
I had this happen in an older Porsche I own, and as a result the frame cracked similarly.
