What is this?

Found this around the engine? What is it? I don't think it looks normal or it should be that way. Also, anyone experience noises when driving at high speeds with the windows up near the doors? Sounds like the mirrors are making the noises.

This aluminum heat shield has been added to protect the gearbox oil exchange pipes from the very nearby exhaust heat.

So there is nothing I need to worry about with that being there? I thought it was a "cheap" fix to a problem the dealer did to get around things. Also, the howling gets annoying at times, is there a way to make the noise reduced or go away?

No, nothing to worry about, it just adds an extra protection keep an eye on the zip ties though, not sure how much heat resistant they are.

Thank you for your reply StefVan. I was curious since the right side of the engine didn't have that . About the mirrors/side howls and noises, do you have any advice on that?

You're welcome You're right, these transmission exchange pipes are located only at the LHS, nearby the E-Diff solenoid valve.

At very high speed, my car makes a lot of different air noises. When the speed is too high, I can't even close the driver window anymore and it stays stuck a couple of cm from the full closed position. I got used to it and try to close the window before speeding up. The mirrors will also create a lot of noise at high speeds as they have to cope with quite a high front air pressure. All these noises start appearing from about 200/220 km/h. IMHO it doesn't disturb me as this doesn't surprise me on such type of cars
