What Is "Sticky Switch" Phenomenon?

What is this sticky switch condition that I see mentioned in Mr Sheehan's and other offerings? Is it an actual difficulty in operation or is it a gummy condition of the plastic surrounding the switches?

The buttons have a soft touch feel to them, almost like a rubbery paint. When the coating fails due to age, temperature, use, etc. The buttons get sticky to the touch, and the coating chips off. When they get really bad, the stickyness gets on your fingers etc. Once they are bad, they need to be cleaned, replaced, or refinished by proffessionals (ie. www.stickynomore.com).

That Stickynomore seems to address the "surround" plastic, not the buttons themselves.

He does the buttons as well, but on a limited series. Email him. He produces stencils that are as good as OEM and restencils the items.
