Scuderia or 16 M ?

Don't know if a similar theme thread already exists. Anyway since many guys here on the forum have driving/experienced their Scud's as well their 16M's I wonder what your pro/cons on each type are ?

Also is the steep price difference between the 2 a justified fact ?

And lastly, how about the exhaust noise level in the 16M with closed roof ?

The pricing of the 16M followed the spider pricing of the 430 - the 16M struggles with sales in the US were directly tied to the economic times.

When Scuderia's hit the market there were massive amounts paid over sticker back in 08 but in 09 they struggled like the 16M and other Ferrari's.

I have no cons about the 16M - it offers everything I look for in an exotic car and taking it to the office or wherever doesn't bother me whatsoever along with using the cell phone for business.

If the 16M were produced today they would be selling for prices way past the 50K premium for the 458 Spider.

IMO - these are the two best "driver" buys on the market today.

Why not have one of each?

The coupe is definitely faster, you can feel the weight difference. If you crack the windows a bit, you still get a pretty great experience with the Coupe, but it really all depends on what exhaust you have installed. A Scud Coupe with an aftermarket exhaust is perfect. When the top is down on the 16M, and the valves open up, it is plenty loud stock. With the top up, sure you have a little more wind noise than the coupe, but both cars stock sound the same IMO with top up and windows closed.

Both cars IMO are keepers for any collection. Really depends I guess on what type of driving you will be doing, if you are interested in some occassional track days, obviously get the coupe. If you want a great car to cruise around in with occassional bursts of speed, 16M.

It's official - 458 Spider reaches 16M prices - 16M sells!
458 coupe and Scud prices are now also converging.
It will be interesting to see if the introduction of the Speciale causes a further oversupply of 458's on the used market.

Scuderia/16M tipped by EVO as 'future icons' - of course we already knew that!

Doug and especially Mark (particularly as you own both the coupe and 16m) your words convey wisdom. And as a fellow 16M owner (and I am backing my 16m), I hope Russell your words are a favourable omen! And as for you 212Export, well I anticipate your postings in the same way that I look at the gold price....Translation....I look always fwd to the latest posting!

David.

Just got a 16M myself. Absolutely love it. My previous data point is a F430 Spider so definitely not a great comparison with the Scuderia. But I had the same debate and I don't think you can go wrong with either.

For me the clinchers were:
-Rarity of the 16M (so few for sale in comparison to regular f430s or the Scud)
-For me being able to take the top down adds a dimension to the driving experience. Different sound and feel with the top down.
-I found a particularly unusual 16M to buy and just could not say no.

Ok, so I'm guessing you're in the UK from your username. We only had 53 UK RHD cars originally (37 or less now) so they are all pretty 'unusual'!

'Unusual 16M' would suggest exterior colour maybe? I believe 6 UK cars in special colours:
Ben/Peters Abu Dhabi Blue car now at DL for sale - maybe now sold?
3 Grigio Opaco cars (Matt grey), one with yellow Alcantara (was Harry's car)
Bianco Fuji car with red leather, was for sale at Bramley a while back.
Nuovo Rosso F1 car - I know you don't have this car

I'm guessing your 'Unusual 16M' is either Bianco Fuji with red leather or Grigio Opaco with yellow Alcantara or Abu Dhabi Blue car from DL.

How did I do?

Personally I would recommend another Scuderia. Hard to beat in terms of bang for the buck right now. In terms of a Spider, best one I have driven is the 12C Spider.

Car is actually in the US, it is Pozzi blue with a Terra Bruciata leather interior.

Regarding the car above--I see that post on two Ferrari boards. I am highly doubtful it really traded there. Seems like maybe a way to negotiate with a seller of a different car....

Sounds like the US market is in a real state when a rare car like the 16M goes for that sort of money. Hate to think where 458 prices are headed in the US market!
UK 16M prices are still on the up after a low of around 170k a couple of years back they are now selling (quickly) for above 180k. This car sold last week and is the 3rd 16M this dealer has sold this summer above 180k - all red!
