Capristo bracket install problem

Hey Guys,

Just getting round to installing my capristo exhaust brackets and I have a problem, the backplate doesn't seem long enough to get the arms into position. See picture below. Could someone with capristo brackets do me a favour and measure the black backplate to see if mine is genuienly too short. I just left the silencer in place and the bottom cat supports, but the brackets just don't look big enough for either side.

Thanks for any ideas.

John.

Hi John,

This is weird. I can't see your backplate very well. I see only 1 bolt going through the backplate while there should be 2.

Here's a picture of my LHS bracket. As you can see, the arm goes rather to the left and fits perfectly under the muffler holes. Can you post a picture of the LHS backplate + arm alone so that I can see better the shape and size proportions?

Hi Stef,

My backplates are definately not as long as yours, the reason you could only see one hold in my backplate was the angle of the photo it does go through both holes. I'll post more pics in a few mins.

It really looks like i've got the wrong bracket. Is the bracket for the capristo muffler a different size?

John.

Yeah John, the brackets for the Capristo muffler are different than for the stock muffler. That maybe indeed the problem. Did you buy them through the UK Capristo distributor (Scuderia Systems)?

Hi Stef,

Yeah I got them from Scuderia Systems who have been great so far, no doubts that they'll sort it out

Here's another couple of pics, first the left bracket on the car again then with ruler that shows the size to be 18cm.

Thanks John for the pictures. It really looks like your backplate is much shorter than mine. I can't check right now on my car as I'm on a business trip but will in a couple of days. I'm sure Scuderia Systems will change them with the right sized brackets

Confirmed today that I have the wrong bracket, correct bracket will be with me on Thursday

Just want to say how great Scuderia systems have been, i bought these brackets months ago and there was absolutely no problem in sorting this out for me

Glad to hear that John.

You have made a wise decision to get the Capristo bracket.
It will save you from having cracked headers in the future!

Just out of curiosity and wanting clarification, is the Scuderia system subject to the same issues the 430 has with cracking headers?

I thought I read somewhere that the scud was a little different in that regards. If someone wouldn't mind schooling me here. I'm still trying to learn more about these cars and that could make a difference for me in the future on getting a 430 or just wait a little longer and get a scud.

Thanks for sharing the knowledge guys!

I thought the same that the Scud didn't have these cracked header problems as the regular 430.

Unfortunately, yes. The Scud's or 16M or 430 MK2 headers will also crack. I know already several cases. It's just a matter of driving time, total miles or track time. As Scud's/16M usually don't have yet much miles, the problem doesn't seem to exist but for those who track often or getting into 15K/20K miles range, the risk of having cracked headers really does exist. Some may say that their is no risk of damaging the engine as the headers have no precats. Not so true because there is still a potential risk that burned off steel bits of the cracked headers can get sucked back in. This also already happened with serious consequences on the engine. Anyway, it's worth spending a bit money on the Capristo brackets and sleep in peace
