Just Purchased my First Ferrari

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum. I just purchased my first Ferrari last week and I'm anxiously awaiting for it to arrive this afternoon. Originally I was looking for a 360 Spider. Fell in love with it the first time I saw it in the movie Bad Boys 2. After reading a lot of the reviews I found the 430 has a better engine so I opted to go with an F430 F1 Spider instead. No regrets whatsoever as I just love the body style. The 458 is supposed to have an even better engine I hear but it was out of my price range. Maybe it will be more reasonable in the next couple of years. Regardless, I still like the 360/430 design much more than the 458 mustache front. But hey, maybe after seeing it a little more I may just end up falling in love it too. Ferrari's can charm the pants off anyone.

Not to nitpick but the Ferrari in Bad Boys 2 was a 550 Maranello that had 575 headlights in some shots.

Michael- Welcome to Ferrari Life. Look forward to seeing photos of your F430 when you get her. Nice thing about the F430, aside from the extra power and E-Diff, is chains instead of belts for the cam drives. Cuts way down on maintenance.

Hi Michael, very welcome to FerrariLife You made an excellent choice and once you'll get the F430, you'll forget about the 458 because it is a great car and very reliable. You'll find here a good source of info and don't hesitate to post your questions. Good luck for the reception of your new car and please post some pictures

Thanks a ton guys! I feel privileged to be a part of this forum. Also thanks about the info on the Bad Boys 2 Ferrari. I guess I was way off and just watched the car chase scene again. You are totally right, it wasn't a 360 at all but a very sweet F-car nonetheless. Tazandjan, I am definitely happy about the lower maintenance worries. StefVan, thanks for your warm welcome, I've seen you give some great advice to many other members. It's good to know I have such knowledgable members to turn to! I will post pictures tonight as I have my Nikon ready to go! Where you guys this excited/nervous about your first Ferrari too?

Thanks Michael My first Ferrari was a 355 and I will never forget how excited I was during the first weeks of ownership. I think that during the first month, every evening after work, I had to go in my garage and have a look to my car I went then straight for a 430 and the longer I have this car, the more I like the shapes and enjoy driving it The 430 is really a great car and I can't imagine to get rid of it. How many miles have yours and which MY is it?

Michael- Expect to get no sleep until you are able to climb into the driver's seat. The same for just about all of us.

Enjoy it, but respect it!

Michael I know you will enjoy it more each time you drive it. Respect the new powerhouse especially when you put it in the race mode (my favorite!). If it get delivered today, you won't sleep tonight, just wanting your next ride, enjoy!

Hey guys, thanks for all the warm welcomes. It's a 2006 F1 Spider. Red in color, I promise to post pics tomorrow! Okay, so I got the car in today. The sucky part was driving home during rush hour. Ahhhh, is it just me or does it get slightly jerky around 5-15 mph in traffic where you keep having to stop and go and stop and go?? Every bit of open road I got I was letting her rip to hear that sexy growl she makes around take off autoshifting in the 2-3rd gears. Now I know this is embarrassing but I've never driven a manual before so I was in automatic mode driving home. After I got home though, I drove around the neighborhood and was using the paddle shifters to learn and it seemed noticeably smoother and I hear it's better for the clutch too. Final question, am I correct to think that when i'm slowing down I should let it downshift on it's own while in the manual mode? I know, such a stupid question but I'd rather ask the experts and look foolish than find out the hard way lol.... As for the excitement, I don't think I'll be getting any sleep until July perhaps (of next year, lol)

Onno to nitpick a little further, I think it was 2 Ferrari's a 550 and a 575. the 550 was used in the more dangerous stunts (it was the directors personal car) and the 575 in most of the static shots and less dangerous driving. If you look closely in the scenes you can see the different alloys etc as well.
