Very reliable, fun car
Good-luck buddy
I'm happy for you!

Assume yours is manual as well?

Hey guys,

Thy just sent me some data. The car had a PPI done in November and all was sound. The only issue is a small chip in the windshield and a small rattle behind the drivers seat.

He can show from a dealership produced service record that the Cam Variator and Engine Mounts were complied with.....I am still trying to see if the TCU was flashed with the updated software....is this a big deal to do or check if we cannot verify...SD2 check??

Given the PPI was done a few months ago I considered calling it off but decided to carry on with it today.....am I wasting my money to get another report stating the same...?

Car is F1 gearbox

Thanks,

Shane

Shane,
have you received a copy of the November PPI? If so do you know who carried it out - can you talk to them? Unless I could physically speak with the person who carried out the Nov PPI, I think I'd still spend the money and get my own done. In the greater scheme of things it is money well spent if you are serious about buying the car.

Shane- As far as I know, those early ECUs/TCUs cannot be reflashed without sending them back to the factory. They need to be replaced if you want to update them.

You asked about motor mounts. If it has the updated mounts like pictured here the only way to see the condition is to remove the bolt and large washers covering the rubber center. If it is bad you will see carcks like these. Once removed they will look like the other picture.

It should also have the 430 trans mount. If not you need one. Your mechanic should easily be able to tell which is installed.

Any Ferrari dealer can run the VIN from their desk computer and tell you if there are any outstanding recalls or campaigns. That includes the variators. That should really be included as part of the PPI process.

Ferrari did not reflash TCU's. If they were updated it was by replacement and that is over $4000 these days. During the PPI a full battery of SD2 tests should be run. One test should be to see if a PIS manual set adjustment can be done. If so the part number of the unit is irrevelant. If not it is likewise irrevelant because you need a new one and they only sell the latest one. Reflashing of the later TCU's is a service offered by a few people and I have seen it make very useful improvements in clutch operation.

If the shop doing the PPI doesn't have an SD2 you are wasting your money. If the shop did not already know all this you are likewise wasting your money. This information is for your education. I am a big believer in bringing your car to someone up to speed. If you need to educate him on things as basic as this it is a big mistake going there.

Good luck with the whole thing. 360 is a great car. Just don't get too target fixated, you can always find another if this doesn't feel right.

Since it is a 99 and you referenced the Forza article here is a picture of a badly cracked frame in the motor mount area.

PPI Done

Hello guys,

Just got the PPI results and below is the summary....

Historic documents show:

Cam Variators complied with at Ferrari Service Center

Engine mount campaign complied with at Ferrari Service Center

Clutch and associated parts replaced 2K ago at Ferrari Service Center

Small chip on windshield ( I have a pic and its tiny )

TCU appears to be the 99 TCU as we cannot see anything to show different. I guess I am to assume the previous owner took care of the clutch and it lasted 17K with this TCU....is that unheard of?

SRS light on...

Can you guys give me advice on the SRS light. Dealer states the light was not on two weeks ago when they drove the car. It was parked off a batt tender and the batt went completely flat. When they topped the batt up to drive it to the PPI the SRS light was on. PPI noted the same.

Would a dead Batt trigger this light or is it deeper and uglier than this? The PPI mechanic advised it might be a seatbelt receptacle acting up? I assume with SD2 or a fault code would produce some direction for correction? I agreed to purchase contingent that the SRS issue was sorted.....selling price 69K.

What do you guys think?

The air bag light and the TCU questions would both be answered if the guy doing the PPI had an SD2 or even enough experience to be doing this job..

It could be a bad air bag ECU. $1200 fix. Again SD2.

TCU? If he had any product knowledge he could just look at it. Did that occur to him?

Another question you did not raise. Why is the battery dead after 2 weeks?

Who did this PPI?

Don Knots.

Sorry but in my opinion you just wasted your money.
