DIY - Install the Scuderia engine bay bonnet side grills

This is a very easy upgrade anyone can do and has already been done by my buddies like TIO and F430ADDICT. Not all mods have to be difficult to do and that’s why I wanted to post this one also which is achievable by anyone . It will take no more than 30/45min to do this.

In addition to the nicely improved look, these Scuderia side vents will allow a much better heat evacuation from the engine bay because they are made of a 100% mesh.

You can find these vents easily at Ricambi, Capristo or Eurospares under the following references :

80363100 RHS Black Grill
80363300 LHS Black Grill

I bought them from Capristo at 256.47 Euros each.

The F430 screws will not fit into the Scuderia grills as they are too large. You can buy them under the reference 65864100 but they are rather expensive screws. Any M5x16 screw will do the deal. Just make sure they are made of stainless steel or you can also easily spray them with black anti-corrosion/heat resistant paint (which I did). You’ll need 16 screws + washers in total (you can also reuse the existing washers if they are still in good condition).

Removing the F430 side vents is very straight forward. Before doing the removal, cover entirely the engine bay with a cloth or old bed sheet because several washers will fall off when removing the existing screws. These washers are located between the grill and the bonnet support “arms”. You’ll need these washers to position the new Scuderia grills. Each side has 8 x Torx screws.

Before installing the new grills, fit a M5x16 screw in each hole of the grill to shape the threaded holes as they are not always perfectly threaded. That will make the installation much easier.

The new grill will need some positioning adjustments so my advice would be to install both grills at the same time. This will help you to obtain an identical positioning of the left and right grill. Start by fitting each grill with just one screw and check that both are aligned in the same way. Adjust them if needed and fit the next screws.

Especially for the upper part of the grills, you’ll need to add 2 or 3 washers to align the grill with the engine bay window. Without these washers, the upper part of the grills would appear a good 0,5mm lower than the window.

A picture together with the CF rear grill. I found that the new side grills have now a much better match with the CF part .

They do look good - mine are slightly wavy.

Not sure if there is a heat issue that causes this or a heavy hand when washing the car.

Another great mod Stef, this should help a bit with engine cooling, matters are even worse on the spider since the rear glass sits right on top of the engine with very little room for heat to dispatch.
