Considering 2003 w 4,700mi

Newbie reaching out for help. I'm considering F1 w 3 owners. Last died - no service records available. Tool case, manual and other things gone. Found indy shop where serviced 18 months ago, they looking for docs (maybe lost). Oil visible (very wet) in pan driver side of motor (level good), can't see any leak on motor. Driven and feels good. General or specific guidance welcomed.

Who best in SoCal (Valley Area) to perform a "pre-purchase" inspection? Read a lot of posts re: clutch life, belts, ball joints, engine mounts, etc...but what service items should I do w such low-miles other than "annual" and change all fluids? Excited but worry w lack of history on the car.

Welcome to FL, Starfish. I am no expert with 360 so let's wait for the experts to chime in.

Saying that. I would walk away from this one. Three owners and such a low mileage ? No records ? That is more than enough for me to pass this one.

Besides, I am sure it is the buyer's market now with so many available.

Good luck with your search.

Starfish- Welcome to Ferrari Life. There are plenty of no stories 360s out there. If you can get this one cheaply enough and it looks good to one of the local experts, might be worth it.

Will let the SoCal natives answer the PPI question. I was going to suggest Gary Bobileff, but he is in San Diego.

Starfish,

Welcome to FL, you've come to the right place for advice and help in finding a car.

With all documents, records and tools gone, there is a good chance this car was stored and not serviced regularly, recently driven until problems arose, then ransaked and flipped.

At any given time, there are usually 60-70 360's for sale, and that's just the ones on eBay. As such, there is absolutely NO reason to buy one with such risky provenance.

Don't walk, RUN from this one.

Of all the narcissists I know, I love me the most.

I don't know that I would necessarily RUN from this car. A GOOD PPI will reveal any major issues. With that low mileage it likely looks new inside and out....and if the price is right, the colors are what you want - it could be a great car.

Good luck. Have seen all the 360 mamual sets and tool kits for sale recently. One nice thing about 17,000 or so having been built.

Starfish, very welcome to FerrariLife. Before falling in love of this car, try to test drive a least a couple of other 360's so that you have a way to compare it with this one (in addition of a PPI). When I tried several 430's, it was quite impressive how different were the cars I've tried especially in terms of handling and engine response.

Good luck

Something tells me the initial interest in this car is price. IF so, you get what you paid as the 'savings' plus repair/fix-it costs will equal that of a well sorted example.

Find the best example out there, and there are plenty, of this high production model. You'll not be sorry as you will spend more time driving than spend to know the ins-outs of excessive fixing. Pocket books should be more opened for gas than fixing.

Starfish - perhaps it's gauche to ask, but if/when you make a deal on this car, would you be willing to reveal the sale price, along with any known issues that are identified in the PPI? For a wannabe 360 owner such as myself, this would be extremely helpful in gauging condition vs. price for these cars.

Very nice list Dang.

I might add to that:

- any aftermarked addons like RADAR, alarms, Stereos. And of the latter how are they incorporated into the Fuse block.

- Leak down [ <-- wouldn't that be an issue too? ]

- Gas tank vacuum/presure?

- IF adj. shocks, notations.

Andrew, IF the PPI list is not in the FL Buyers Guide, it would be good to add as an addendum IMHO

Stef:

You are welcome and thank you as well. Just trying to help back others as I have benefited greatly from your (and many others) help / expertise from the community (note: the doc was posted a while back by another member that I saved).

I'm in! Purchased car. Located prior service records (all appropriate for age and miles). Dealer (not the seller) PPI discovered oil leak (rear main or crank plug behind pilot bearing) and F1 clutch wear at 60%, nothing more serious. She's in shop for leak repair, annual service, and new tires. How accurate are these clutch percent wear measurements? I know that future clutch wear will mostly depend on my driving style, but in general...how many miles could I expect from the remaining 40%? Should I replace clutch while they are doing the leak repair (less expensive now than doing alone later)?
