f430 Manual as to F1

Ive been doing some asking regarding which one i should have.
I spoke to a ferrari dealer who said there would be a difference in price of around 5000.00.
Is that true?
If so then the manual would be harder to sell on later and at a cosiderable
amount less

Gery- Here in the States, there is no premium for the F1 transmission and the three pedal cars are sought after because they are relatively rare at around 10% of production. The clutch can be replaced on the three pedal cars without using the factory SD3 computer diagnostic tool. On the F1 cars, an SD3 is required to set point of initial slippage (PIS) on new clutches. F1 cars also usually require a relatively expensive clutch position sensor, not found on the three pedal cars, when the clutch is changed. Finding a dealer with an SD3 is not a big deal in the UK, where there are so many dealers and independents within a 2 hour drive. It can be a problem here in the States, where distances to dealers can be much longer.

The three pedal cars share a weak shifter bushing with the 360, but Hill Engineering makes an aluminum replacement for the OEM plastic bushing that is an easy fix for that problem.

In general, the F430s have been very reliable, including the F1 system, which had upgraded components and software compared to the 360.

I think there was a price differential at one time, but they're probably at parity now.

Mike Sheehan gave me a list of 360 options and how much they affected resale prices. I posted it here about a year ago, you should be able to find it in a search. Granted the data is now 18 months old and for the 360, but you can probably derive some comparitive value for the 430.

I think in the end it will come down to personal preference. I would, if possible try to drive both a manual and F1. If one attracts you more, then go for that. Either will deliver an excellent Ferrari experience.

If there is a price differential it will be at both ends of the deal so it will be a wash.

If you own it long an F1 car will cost more to maintain, sometimes way more so the savings will go to the stickshift every time.

While we hear of stickshift cars being in demand on the used market because so few were made that really doesn't happen real world. There were few real buyers of them new and there are few real buyers of them used. Does not mean they are a hard sell, it just means they are not the hot item many say.



Buy what you want but be aware an F1 has some very expensive components that will break. It is just a matter of time.

Hey Killer - I wasn't able to find your list of 360 options after multiple attempts. Any chance you could dig it up and either post the link, or re-post the doc here?

5k on a 100k+ car should not enter into the buying decision. whether true or not. and as brian says, it's a wash. Buy the one you want. personally, i like the stick. drive both and see.

All I could find last night was his e-mail stating that Rosso Corsa, "Resale Red", adds $10K to the price. But that was then. While I'm sure Rosso Corsa still demands a premium, I'm not sure that $10K still holds true.

I'll keep looking for the list.

Cant seem to get a drive in both, but part of me says if i get a manual ill want an F1.
