Andreas- Thanks, I will add Engine Number 122779 to my knowledge base. That probably matches up pretty well with SN 156938.

The 599 clearly is a completely different car compared to the 575 under many aspects: all-aluminium chassis and body, magnetorheological shocks, Manettino settings, Enzo-derived F140 engine, F1 Superfast gearbox, etc. It definitely represented a great evolutionary step in the technical and styling fields.

The 575 still offers a hint of analog feeling, a feeling that has gone completely lost in the 599, I am afraid. On the other hand, the 599 is a superior touring car, almost unrivaled for cross-continental journeys, and that's the main reason I chose it over the Maranello. 599's F1 shifts are considerably faster and sharper, too.

As for the performance,
They are both very powerful and very nervous cars. The 599, though, is frightening, on the borderline of being unsafe. Drive responsibly.
Ciao Andreas,

Grazie per i vostri consigli. I have posted a more detailed explanation of my Ferrari search, using your advice, in the 575M/Superamerica forum.

From your description, I do not believe that I would be comfortable driving a 599 GTB, just too much power and need for young reflexes

Saluti,
Hello All,

I know that I said that a 599 was probably not the Ferrari for me since I probably lack the driving skills for its raw power delivery, but I was drawn to the uniqueness of this 2010 599 GTB HGTE.

On it's own, the HGTE makes this car unique due its low production numbers. But the two-tone Corso Rosso/Nero exterior really attracted my attention. The other exterior options also added to its uniqueness: Italian flag coloured racing strip that also includes the entire width of the trunk (boot) lid, black two-piece wheels, and the black prancing horse on the rear.

I have searched for a similar 599 GTB with two-tone paint but did find any, not to mention the other exterior options. This leads me to believe that it was either a:

1. special edition done specifically for the HGTE option and possibly given a style name;
2. custom ordered by the original buyer from Ferrari; or
3. it was painted and modified by an aftermarket company.

Can anyone provide information about the two-tone paint scheme and if it is connected at all with the other exterior options? Does anyone know the proper name for this wheel style and colour?

I have also included a photo that shows wheel rash. Can this be repaired with these black wheels?

Many thanks,

Hello All,

I just found this same 599 GTB two-tone exterior colour combination in a 2008 post at teamspeed.com (see link below). Could it have been an HGTE colour option or some other option?

Ferrari Road Car Models and Production Numbers - Page 2 - Teamspeed.com

Can't see from this photo if it also had the 3-coloured racing stripe or black prancing horse, but it does not have the black wheels.

Hi Gianni, there was an Alonso version of the 599 GTB which I am sure had HGTE pack and a special livery. I can't put my finger on the pictures but it had Rosso with Bianco roof, Italian flag stripe, the same Italian flag rear boot spoiler livery and Alonso livery on the C pillar/buttress.

My guess is this car has taken some of the details from those special cars and included them.

It's a nice one either way, and by the way the 599 is a very powerful car but not at all hard to live with.

Cheers
Michael

Current Fcars: 360 Modena
Gone but not forgotten: 360 Spider, 575M, F430.
Other stuff: '71 Holden GTS Monaro, '80 BMW Alpina B9, '74 Porsche Targa, Caterham, MB CL500, Land Rover Discovery.

Hello Michael.

I am concerned about living with the 599's power since my reflexes are not what they used to be, but the two-tone Rosso/Nero exterior above has a dramatic look and appears to be a rare combination. It has me intrigued, so I'll call to get the historical details about it.

I found a similar two-tone exterior on a 599 GTO (see below), except that the nero is actually CF. Very impressive looking GTO, but out of my budget

Gianni,

I prefer this last, for me that's very nice!
But, how we tell in Italy, " the nice is enemy of the cheap ...."

Sounds very nice. Do you have any photos? Yours predates the change to Motronic 7.3.2 at SN 156938 in the US.

599 Technical Thread?

Gentlemen, I am considering selling the Superamerica now while the market seems right. If so I will be looking for a 599 to fill the garage. I looked for a sticky thread here on the 599 like Taz constructed for the 550 and 575. That thread has been a life saver for me!!! Am I missing the same type of 599 thread here? How do I find that if it exists? For example I see Taz has the hot tip that there was a major ECU upgrade on 599s at S/N 156938. That was buried in the 575 Tech thread and I just happened to see as an avid reader.
Is there something similiar for 599s? They seem to be the bargain V 12s now.

Hi Glenn,
yes now the market seems right for selling ... but you have one of the few SA !
For sure this kind of trade will bring you a 599 plus cash...
Personally i not would to trade SA for 599, but is my personal taste .. you must do as you prefere ....
If i would buy a 599 i would the HGTE version, after 2009 ...

Good luck.

Greetings Blancpain,

Not yet. I haven't even driven the car! I was traveling when I found it, had our dealership Ron Tonkin GT acquire it for me. I sat in it two Saturdays ago turned the engine over, then off to Europe. I hope to pick it up this weekend. Our Portland weather has been quite wet and looking f or fairly dry day to bring it home.

I have one interior shot from the dealership. Not great, but if you look close you can see the blue stitching.

Il Tribunale?

Comunque la mia città natale non è Parma; io sono un gentiluomo del Sud :-)

Definitely gorgeous.

Be careful on slippery roads– manettino always in 'Wet'!

Thank you very much Terry. If I recall you were asking for the Chassis Number for your collection. It is 158204.

Now that I have had the car in my possession for two days and cooperative weather. I have had a little opportunity to drive and experience the car. Under normal driving conditions and in auto, it is an amazing luxury car. But just step on the accelerator, even with the Manettino in "Low Grip" mode, this car becomes a beast! I look forward to learning how to drive the car with increased skill and enjoyment.
