Hi Fabio - how did you get engine solid models?

Also - what software do you use? (looks like Pro Engineer). I use SolidWorks.

Ciao Dave,
I get the model by means of 3d laser scanner , see post nr 5, I was lucky to found a shop who had a 599 disassembled, I took also the model of engine compartment and back mufflers... it was little bit expensive but permitted me to do a project based on precise dimension ....

Also I use Solidworks 3d software....

Fabio- Those certainly look stiff enough to take just about anything.

Nice blanchard ground plates Welding causes parts to pull so you need very stiff fixtures to keep stuff from moving.

They look a lot like the optical benches we used for lasers, etc.

Terry, Dave :

the aluminium is available also in machined sheets on the thickness with good tolerances and the seller company could cut at the dimension want.
In thi sway the cost is less in respect to buy a rolled plate and machining in every surfaces, my CNC company have only did the holes, I used 20 mm Thk.

This Jig i will use for the F 599 headers, as per following process:

1 - Tack weld the single loose bends for do the single pipes for each cylinder
2 - Weld of junction between bends of each pipes
3 - Header assembly and tack weld (head flanges and 6-1 merge point)
4 - Final welding (head flanges and 6-1 merge point)

Is a long process but in this way the deformation due to the weldings are reducet at minimum, instead if manufacture the headers in only one phase (assuming that the points to be weld are all reachable) you will have contemporary the deformation (retraction) due to all the welds ....

I used 20 mm Thk. aluminium for the base, i think is sufficientemente rigida for the scope of work ....

Fabio - the aluminum plates would not be good as they would also suck the heat (heat sink) when welding. I've done a tremendous amount of TIG welding in my past life (I built somewhere around 100 dragster chassis). You are doing this properly

Hi Dave,
that's correct, but i use only for the single pipes tack weld (points) and for the last weld, that is not no much weld ...
I hope will work correct ....

I also did by myseld a msvaging mold for make the connection between CAT and bypass pipe, connection is exactly like the original in order to can be free to install the single parts and not oblige to buy all, and for have the same look of the original ...

Hello guys,
follows some pictures of the connection flanges at the interface between CAT and CAT bypass pipes, the flanges have same dimensions of the originals, in this way possible install independent my headers system and cat bypass pipes in the same time or separately, for me is important not oblige my potential client to buy all the system, i want that he will be free to choise what he prefer ....

Fabio- You are making rapid progress. I bet it will make a vanilla 599 sound just like a GTO.

I want like also to help my welder in his work, I'm doing a rotating support (barycentre) in order to make easy the good positioning for weld.
