Somebody else who does not know how to drive an F1 Ferrari or even understand what it is. Automatic with manual override? Give me a break.

Might be confused here, but I've owned several F1 Ferraris and loved them all. The F1 fitted to 612's was in its infancy and is rubbish compared with later models. The Manual option makes a 612 is so much better. There's no contest. It wouldn't be better on a Scuderia or a Speciale but their version of F1 is nothing like the early system fitted to 612's.

No, it was not. It was an F1A system and about 10-15 generations down the line. About the same algorithms as those used in the F430, which are quite good. Same system fitted to the Superamerica. Speciale does not have F1, it has a dual clutch transmission with paddle shifters. Completely different from the F1 system in the Scuderia/16M with a manual transmission and electro-hydraulic shifter.

One thing the article fails to mention is whether or not he tested an HGTS / HGTC version of the F1 or a base model.

I did and I can tell you the two versions felt substantial different to me. I eventually waited for an HGTS F1 version after sampling a base model which left me uninvolved.

In addition to the faster shifting, I think the big difference is the sport exhaust, which sounds much more aggressive than the standard exhaust.

I too would prefer the manual, but the HGTS / HGTC versions do improve overall performance & experience for F1 and probably MT as well.

Current: 2007 612 F1 HGTS

Owned a HGTS 612 and loved that car - silly to think the manual is better 12 cylinder is a perfect match to the F1 - but that is assuming the driver knows how to use an F1 and he isn't full of ...

People can justify anything but Ferrari knew best when they dropped the manual.

Anyway - the guy says he preferred the 612 over the FF - later writes the 612 exhaust could use more volume but his bank account can't afford that ... so let's go over why he REALLY chose the 612 vs he preferred it.

Worst article written by a ... strange man!

Sorry Flumpy - the article doesn't add up especially at the end - what's next ... he's still trying to justify his purchase.

Interesting debate, does not this result say something about the value of Manuals?
